Activities at Cossins House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Unsworth

Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since the age of 16, when leaving school. Over the years, I have been a senior care assistant, administrator, home trainer and activities coordinator. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents.

Autumn Crafts

Residents at Cossins House like to get hands on and create pictures as well as enjoying their seasons.

Our residents decided Autumn pictures would be good and took off out in the garden to collect different leaves. Some decided to draw around the leaves whilst others used them for printing or copying.

All had a wonderful afternoon and gifted their pictures to others in the home.

Pumpkins

Residents at Cossins House were happy to get creative and carve pumpkins for Halloween.

They had lots of fun getting messy and digging out their pumpkins ready for our chef to make them Pumpkin Pie.

Each resident designed their own and got into a competition of whose would be better whilst reminiscing about their lives.

Sunday Mass

Sister Anne had a lovely Sunday out with staff members Andy and Josielyn.

Staff took Sister Anne to Church to receive Holy Communion followed by a wonderful trip to Epsom to do some shopping.

Sister Anne was delighted to get out and do the things she loves. Sister Anne was overwhelmed with happiness when Josielyn took her home for a cup of tea and to meet her family.

Cossins Cat Walk

The Red Carpet came out today as Residents, Staff, Relatives and family pets took to the cat walk and showed off some fabulous outfits.

We all had such a wonderful afternoon followed by a glass of bubbles. Senior Carer Josielyn set out to get hold of a red carpet and many outfits for all to enjoy a fulfilled afternoon.

Resident Pat said ‘I have never walked on a Cat Walk before, who would have thought I would do it in a care home’.

Our residents are looking forward to our next Christmas Cat Walk.

Shopping trip!

Our lovely resident Barbara was a little worried when moving into Cossins House that she would sadly no longer be able to go shopping.

Barbara’s favourite shop is Waitrose which was very close to her house. She would walk down daily and has become great friends with all the staff there.

Activity Coordinator Lisa, reassured Barbara that she could continue shopping and said she could still enjoy doing what she loves to do.

We set off to the supermarket to do some shopping, Barbara was delighted, she had time to speak to all her friends and see so many familiar faces.

Barbara was very happy to buy some of her favourite products, she said ‘It feels like I am at home, I am really glad I went shopping today’, and she is very much looking forward to the next shopping trip.

100th Birthday celebrations!

Our dear resident Phyllis celebrated her 100th Birthday with her family, friends, residents and staff here at Cossins House.

Phyllis was overwhelmed with gifts, balloons, cake and especially her card from King Charles and Queen Camilla.

Phyllis said ‘ I cannot actually believe I have been alive for 100years, it doesn’t seem real’.

Such a lovely day for all to enjoy and to be our first resident to receive a card from the King!
