Activities at Cossins House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Unsworth

Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since the age of 16, when leaving school. Over the years, I have been a senior care assistant, administrator, home trainer and activities coordinator. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

A trip down memory lane!

Many of our residents have spent their younger years walking alongside the River Thames watching the boats and feeding the ducks. We decided to go back to our roots and take this journey again. We set off in our minibus and headed to the Thames via Walton Bridge.

The day was perfect, the sun was shining and there were many ducks and swans to greet us. We had a lovely walk then stopped off in the café for a cup of tea and a cookie.

Whilst having tea, we all talked about our past and reminisced about our latter years. Sister Anne was delighted as she was a very keen walker and spent so much time walking along the Thames as a child. Happy Residents.

Bake off!

Cossins House residents like to be hands-on and help support the kitchen team by making delicious cakes and snacks to enjoy with our afternoon tea. Residents show off their amazing skills and put together some of their old-time favourite recipes which they made for their families in the past.

Some of our residents said they miss being in the kitchen. At Cossins House we like to encourage independence and engagement and enjoy all the activities we love.

Spring has Sprung

Vitamin D is what makes us happy. Getting outdoors and having time in the fresh air is what we love.

Residents walk around our fabulous garden several times throughout the mornings and afternoons and like to engage in group activities in the sunshine. Taking our exercise sessions in the garden and having a sing along together keeps us smiling and happy.

Nutrition and Hydration Week

Delicious milkshakes, jellies and fresh fruits are enjoyed by all residents throughout the day to help keep us feeling hydrated.

Our wonderful chef expresses her talents and delivers the most amazing nutritious drinks each week, changing her flavours to suit our tastes. Resident Jean said ‘I love a milkshake, it is so refreshing’.

Pat said ‘You just cannot live without fresh fruit, it makes you feel good to keep you going in the day’.

Tap About Town

Katie joined us at Cossins House for a wonderful afternoon of tap dancing.

Many of our residents have tapped danced in their lives and were astonished to watch Katie perform. Katie danced to some of our old-time favourites and got us all tapping and singing along throughout her performance.

Katie brought Cossins House to life with happiness and movement. Jean said ‘ Wow, such a wonderful afternoon, and so much fun.’

Getting out and about

At Cossins House we like to get out and about and enjoy our local community.

Residents asked to go to the garden centre for afternoon tea and some retail therapy. The residents bought themselves treats and plants to bring back home and enjoy.

We all sat together for afternoon tea and reminisced about our past. It was a lovely trip, and we all enjoyed each other’s company.
