Activities at Cossins House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Lisa Unsworth

Activities Coordinator

I have been working in care since the age of 16, when leaving school. Over the years, I have been a senior care assistant, administrator, home trainer and activities coordinator. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Valentine’s Day

Residents were overwhelmed with Valentine’s celebrations at Cossins House. Our lovely chef cooked a delicious meal and prepared lots of loving dishes for lunch. Our wonderful Gardener, Maintenance man and Kitchen Assistant each went round to all our ladies with a red rose and Lindt chocolates wishing them all a very happy Valentine’s Day. The smiles of happiness were an absolute joy. Our couples were able to join their partners and have a romantic meal together.

Chinese New Year

Celebrating Chinese New Year at Cossins House by turning our dining room into a Fine Chinese Restaurant. Our new residents were so delighted to feel back home and taste all the delicious dishes prepared by our chef Raji. Prawn crackers and sweet chilli sauce went down like a treat. Residents tasted several dishes and have requested for Chinese more often. Each resident had a fortune cookie and enjoyed reading them out to each other.

Scrabble Club

Cossins House residents love to challenge each other in a game of scrabble and keep their minds active. During our monthly residents meetings residents give us ideas and requests of activities they would like to do in the care home. All suggestions are added to our Life Enrichment programme for all to be able to enjoy. We encourage several word games to stimulate our minds. Word searches, word wheels and crosswords are also a requested activity by our residents.

Music makes us smile

Residents at Cossins house love to listen and sing along to live music. Each Friday we have a live singer during the afternoons. Residents sing along tap their feet and smile with happiness. Residents are able to reminisce with their past times and sing some of their old time favourites. Music is a great therapy to help people feel happy. Being able to come together as a group and enjoy ourselves, let off some steam and keep each other happy.

Getting Creative

Each month at Cossins House we have an afternoon getting together to discuss things we like to do and any changes we wish for. This month residents asked to do more creative activities and asked to start some embroidery. We purchased some equipment and residents have been delighted to get hands on and start creating beautiful pictures. We will be continuing our craft sessions weekly to see what else we can produce as individuals and as a team.

Knitting for Hospitals

It has been an absolute pleasure to help and support our local hospitals with our talents. Residents at Cossins House have taken to their knitting needles and produced many wonderful baby hats to donate to our local hospitals. Resident Anne was delighted to do a drop them off to Kingston Hospital and is continuing to knit more hats for other hospitals. Anne is very fond of helping others and said’ Just think that over fifty babies will be wearing hats that we made’. We as a team at Cossins House will be continuing during our afternoon Knit and Knatter sessions.
