Activities at Cossins House Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

I have been working in care since the age of 16, when leaving school. Over the years, I have been a senior care assistant, administrator, home trainer and activities coordinator. I really enjoy working with the elderly residents.

Lunch and Pimm’s in the garden

Whilst the weather is glorious sunshine we like to sit and have our meals in the garden. The Pimm’s tops our lunch off nicely with its delicious sweetness. Our residents like to socialise and engage with each other over meal time. The vitamin D is always an added bonus to lift all our spirits and enjoy one and other. We look forward to many more activities in our wonderful grounds over the next few months.

Theatre time

Residents had a lovely afternoon out at Leatherhead Theatre to watch Boxhill School Students perform Legally Blonde. Our residents love watching students perform and also going to the theatre so we did both. A fun enjoyable afternoon of music and happiness followed by a delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken Lunch.

Summer is on its way

Residents at Cossins House spent some much needed time in the sun sitting by the pond listening to the water getting some vitamin D. Our residents admired our new recycled planters which our fabulous gardener helped us to achieve. Adding some colour and life in our garden makes us feel happy and gives us a beautiful surrounding to enjoy.

Bowling at Tolworth

Ken hits that strike. Our lovely residents enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at Tolworth Bowls for a competitive game. Some of our residents said they had never been bowling and are now unable to try, not at Cossins House, we like to make wishes come true. Activity coordinator booked an afternoon session at our local bowling alley and took our residents along to enjoy a fun and enjoyable afternoon. Our residents had so much fun they are looking forward to the next match.

Gardening

Residents at Cossins House meet each month to touch base on all areas within our home. Residents requested for raised flower beds to be put in around our garden for them to be able to pot some plants and take care of them. Our wonderful gardener jumped into to action and got out his tools to make their wishes come true. Residents were delighted to get their hands dirty and plant some beautiful flowers in these raised flower beds and are looking forward to taking care of them each day. A bright colourful garden makes up happy.

Easter Competitions with our local Nursery

Cossins House organised an Easter competition with our local Nursery. The children were asked to design a picture of an Easter Egg. This was a great joy for all the young children who love to get their hands in paint, glue and glitter. Our residents sat one afternoon and went through each picture and chose three winners who each won a lovely chocolate Easter egg. After such difficult decisions as the work was fantastic we decided to treat all the children to some chocolate. Resident Anne and Pat were delighted to go to the nursery and hand out the children’s treats and spend time with them.

When arriving at the nursery Pat and Anne said ‘How lovely to see all those little wellies lined up, that brings back some memories’. We had a lovely time with the children and look forward to visiting them again and getting involved in many more competitions.
