Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

LOVE PAST AND PRESENT- VALENTINE’S WEEK CELEBRATIONS

We have  embraced Love, past and present this week.

We created a Valentines Trail through beautiful and historic Wells. 12 single red roses were left in carefully selected venues. To be found by the local community who were then invited in to meet our residents and collect an indulgent gift.

Clues were posted on Facebook and all the roses were collected by members of the public. There were some heart-warming stories, A 12-year girl called Emily found a rose in Waterstones book store whilst on a school trip from Sedgemoor Manor school in Highbridge.

Another little boy found a rose after his swimming lesson at the local leisure centre he was delighted his first ever rose.

We would like to thank Bishops Palace, Wells Cathedral, The Old Deanery, Costa Coffee, The Town Hall, The Swan Hotel, Priory Health Centre, Wells Library, Waterstones Book shop for taking part in the Valentines Trail. It was enormous fun and our residents really enjoyed meeting all the winners.

The residents have also enjoyed Valentine’s Day themed Origami, painting and music this week.

On Valentine’s Day it self we started the day with a delicious breakfast accompanied with strawberries prosecco and bucks fizz.

The highlight being a Valentines Ball to celebrate love past and present in the evening with ballroom dancers Terry and Jenny.

General Manager, Meg Cleal, said: “We’ve all had a lovely week decorating the home and making gifts for each other and for our loved ones. Lots of our residents were able to see their loved ones either in person or via video call. We’ve had a whole range of treats and Valentine’s themed fun and we have enjoyed every moment of it!”

Burns Night Celebrartions

We Celebrated Burns Night across two days Friday 24th and Saturday 25th January Michael Angus Music Therapist played and sang Traditional Scottish songs and Ballard’s Friday morning and the fun continued well into the afternoon and evening with a Scottish Themed sing along in the afternoon and a Robert Burns Poetry recital after supper with a wee dram.

Saturday was a tartan whirlwind of fun, a Burn Night quiz in the morning followed by a Scottish themed supper with haggis, neeps and tatties.

Staff and residents at the home enjoyed Celebrating the Scottish traditions old and new including giving the time-honoured address to the ‘Great chieftain O’ the pudding race’ – the haggis.

General Manager, Megan Cleal, at Crandon Springs, thought it was a perfect occasion to celebrate an evening steeped in age-old tradition as well as getting in a spot of Scotch whisky tasting, reading a selection of Burns’ poems and dancing with Tipsy Laird for dessert.
She said: “Burns Night is always a fantastic event at Crandon Springs, it’s so important to continue these traditions.  Our residents enjoyed a hearty meal of Scotch broth, Haggis with neeps and tatties all prepared by our stellar Chef Stuart Constable.  We also had great fun discovering how much, or is some cases how little(!), we knew about Scotland with our brilliant Scottish quiz.”
Josie, resident of Crandon Springs said: “I enjoyed reading the Robbie Burns poetry his use of simple language to convey a heartfelt message and dashing good looks are something I would have left home for as a young lass. The whiskey tasting was lovely too.  Burns Night is always a brilliant night here.”

Especially with my fellow residents who have Scottish connections we represent the highlands, lowlands and Edinburgh.
