Activities at Crandon Springs Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life. Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Katherine Cork

Activities Assistant

Hello, my name is Kath and I’m the Activities Assistant here at Crandon Springs.

As part of the Activities and lifestyle enrichment team, I help in organising our daily activities, ensuring that all of our residents have a variety of activities to choose from each day. I love enriching our residents’ lives by providing meaningful and engaging activities and, having been both a teacher and care assistant in the past, have a wealth of experience behind me. You'll rarely find me without a smile and I'm very family orientated, and I love how both the residents' and colleagues Crandon Springs feel like a second family to me!

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Happy Parent Club Visit

It’s been a busy week this week at Crandon Springs  with loads going on! One particular highlight was a visit by the Happy Parent Club, who popped by to host an intergenerational playdate between themselves and the residents.

The adults and toddlers alike enjoyed themselves, with some of the residents telling a few funny stories of their own children from when they were toddlers!

At Crandon Springs we know that intergenerational activity is hugely beneficial to all involved as it encourages communication and social skills. Intergenerational contact also helps to develop language and reading confidence through shared activities, as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lastly it helps children to develop empathy, care and kindness, helping them to understand and talk more positively about ageing and older people.

World Photo Day!

Today is World Photography Day and staff and residents spent the day reminiscing with old photos of themselves and loved ones, whilst sharing some accompanying stories.

World Photography Day was a great opportunity for all to reflect on past experiences by looking at treasured photographs and sharing happy memories with each other.

Some particular highlights were resident Brian telling us of his time in the RAF, Dennis’ time in Singapore with the Army and Christine taking her first ever selfie! One member of staff brought in a photo of them at a birthday party as a child….can you guess who it was? Please take a moment to enjoy the photos below.

It was a lovely day, full of smiles and memories and these shared experiences are a great way to ensure that our residents remain connected with each other and their loved ones.

Pudding Club

This month’s pudding club had a slightly different twist, in honour of the recent spate of good weather the residents choose to have an ice cream themed selection of sweet treats!

Second Chef Elliot Allen and his team whipped up a delightful round of puddings that didn’t hang around long.

The residents loved the variety of flavours and said that they felt very nostalgic, prompting them to share some of their own memories and favourite puddings.

Our next pudding club will be on the 14th September and we will announce the next theme shortly. If you would like to join us here, please let us know!

Employee of the Month!

Our Employee of the Month for July goes to our wonderful, and incredibly hard working carer Liza!

Liza was the unanimous choice for July, with a number of our residents and staff choosing her in recognition of her exceptional efforts and willingness to go the extra mile at all times.

Sophie Hoskins, the Deputy Manager here at Crandon Springs presented Liza with our Employee Of The Month Reward and a bottle of wine a small thank you

Thank you Liza, from all the residents and staff!

Flowers, cakes and coffee!

Quickly becoming a Crandon Springs resident favourite, some of our residents chose to visit Brownes Garden Centre and Coffee shop this week as part of their day trip.

Christine and Ann were full of smiles and a hint of mischief as they helped choose some new additions for the garden, before having some tea and cake in the cafe.

Summer Sports Day!

With the excitement of the Paris Olympics in the air at Crandon Springs and the sun well and truly onside, Residents and staff at Crandon Springs laced up their trainers and warmed-up for the annual sports day!

With a range of activities set out for both residents and staff, teams had some friendly competition and battled it out to be crowned sporting champions by Deputy General Manager Sophie Hoskins, before being treated to a winner’s buffet of fresh sandwiches, home-made cakes, along with fresh juice and Pimms.

Deputy General Manager Sophie Hoskins said: “We always encourage our residents to keep active. With summer finally making a welcome appearance, we had a great opportunity to move our activities outside to make the most of the weather. Our residents and their guests really enjoyed today and it was lovely to see so many of them getting involved. It reminded all of us of when we were kids at school!”

Eventual winner and taking the gold medal was Addie, a resident at Crandon Springs, who said “I am quite shocked that I won! I am quite competitive but that’s usually when I play scrabble with friends and family, not so much with sports!”. Fellow Resident and the home’s Resident Ambassador, Christine added, “it was such a fun afternoon, we were all inspired by the Olympics I think as there was some good-humoured competition between us all!
