Activities at Fairview House Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators create a weekly planner that consists of a variety of activities, which caters to all residents' needs as best as possible. The most popular activities are bingo, which we host twice a week, flower arranging and weekly visits from Vinnie our pet therapy dog. Residents also enjoy minibus trips in the nicer weather and we attend a concert every month. We are also involved in the Council Well-being Team, which keeps us up-to date with upcoming events within the community and provides interesting ideas for activities we can try in the home.

Throughout the year, we host various special events, including themed open days and summer and winter fetes that people in our local communities are welcome to join us for. We also have monthly church services with Rev. Ann from Danestone Congregational Church, which is open to loved ones as well.

Life at Fairview House Care Home

Home celebrates Chinese New Year

Staff and residents at Fairview House Care Home in Aberdeen welcomed in the Year of the Rabbit with a day of celebrations and activities.  Inspired by Chinese culture and traditions, the home was decorated with hanging red lanterns and dragons which the residents had worked hard on creating themselves. They also learnt all about the traditions and superstitions of Chinese New Year.  Head chef Alec cooked up an oriental feast for lunch and residents enjoyed the delicious food washed down with pots of Chinese tea.

Starlings with Royal Parks

Across our services our residents have enjoyed a wonderful live virtual talk about starlings, one of the UK’s most gregarious birds, hosted by Rachel Dowse from The Royal Parks London.

Rachel examined our long history with this bird and the importance of common species to our lives. Our residents had the opportunity to find out more about the great murmuration and why we need to pay special attention to these beauties before it's too late.

The virtual experience was truly enjoyed by all.

Residents enjoy festive carols

Heavenly voices rang out at Fairview House Care Home as the community came together to celebrate Christmas with a carol concert.  Staff and residents at Barchester’s Fairview House care home, in Aberdeen, got in the Christmas spirit by inviting the community to come and join in with a carol concert to sing some festive Christmas favourites.  The singing was led by Step by Step Nursery in the Morning and The Sweet Adeline’s Choir in the Afternoon.

There was mulled wine, hot chocolate, roasted chestnuts and toasted marshmallows along with lots of other Christmas treats all prepared by head chef, Alex to get everyone feeling festive.

Wreath Making

We got residents from all communities to come together and work as a team to make the most beautiful Christmas wreath.

Everyone loved getting involved in decorating and placing all the different aspects of the wreath, we were even more chuffed when it was completed. There was glitter everywhere by the end of this Activity but who doesn't love a bit of extra sparkle!

,

Gingerbread House Making

Today we came together and made our very own amazing gingerbread houses! This activity was challenging at points especially when our houses kept falling apart! However, with great determination and team work we managed to create some beautiful houses in the end.

Everyone loved working together as a team and seeing the final product after a hard morning of work! It was even better at the end when we had some left over chocolates and sweets to snack on! Great effort from our residents & happy to see everyone enjoying themselves!

Decorating our Home for Christmas

Today we all continued with helping getting the home decorated in preparation for Christmas! Everyone has loved getting involved in making the home look beautiful and getting into the festive spirit.
In the afternoon we then put a Christmas movie on in all the lounges and enjoyed some delicious mince pies to celebrate a hard day’s work!
We will continue to decorate the home over the next week and are all excited to come together and enjoy each other's company on the run up to Christmas.
