Activities at Field House Care Home
The Activities Coordinators here at Field House are always keen to learn about residents' interests and hobbies, tailoring meaningful activities to the likes and dislikes of those we support. Our mission is to ignite the past, appeal to current interests and embrace new ones, improving quality of life whilst stimulating the mind and senses. Activities are carried out via small groups or individually, supported by local volunteers. We have access to a range of local community facilities and nearby places of interest, prompting community engagement, and hold special events at the home, where we are entertained by guest vocalists and performers, with 'The Quiz Master' being a fan favourite.
Caroline Davis
Hi, I'm Caroline and I joined Field House in 2021 from another Barchester home. I have worked in care for the last 30 years and a big part of that has been with Barchester.
Here at Field House, I organise a variety of activities and social events within the home and in the community, such as gardening club arts and crafts, weekly exercise sessions along with live singers and musicians every month. We are also keen on regular outings to local landmarks, museums, cafes and shopping centres.
In my job, I'm able to develop excellent relationships with residents and their families providing the support they need. I am very passionate about my job role as it is very important to us as a team that every individual is able to live the life they wish and feel fulfilled in their everyday activities maintaining past hobbies and finding new ones.

Life at Field House Care Home
Our first Book Club
Residents at Field House started their own book group with the help of Ross from Burway books in Church Stretton. Starting the book group was the idea of resident Elizabeth as many years ago she started her own book group at Burway Books. The book this week was a Benjamin Myers “Cuddy” the residents really enjoyed hearing short parts out of the book and there was lots of interesting discussions followed by, of course tea and cake. We look forward to next month as the residents asked to hear some poetry.
Quiz afternoon with Kerry
The residents at Field House settles down with wine and nibbles and the lovely Kerry Young and her fabulous Kerry’s quiz! With our four teams of staff residents and visitors the quiz began! Picture rounds and name that tune were just a few of the rounds. It was very close at the end but the All-stars were the winners and didn’t the men enjoy the winning!
Flicks in the Sticks
A couple of our men at Field House asked if they could visit the local 'Flicks in the Sticks' evening in Church Stretton, they were showing The Great Escaper. We had a fantastic evening enjoying ice cream and popcorn. After, I asked the man if they had enjoyed it and Peter said he couldn’t wait to watch February's show as he had such a great night.
Celebrating Elvis' Birthday
Field House celebrated Elvis Presley’s birthday in style ! Larry our maintenance man turned from Bob the builder to Elvis in seconds, Larry had the residents shouting for more! Elizabeth didn’t want to miss out on the action and asked for help getting up for a dance. After the show Larry unveiled himself and some of the residents including Elizabeth didn’t know it was Larry. It was a fantastic afternoon with staff and residents joining in. the next day Elizabeth couldn’t wait to ask Larry who he was going to be next.
Exercise and Games
The first week of the new year and we have been busy here at field house. The residents have enjoyed our first exercise class, we popped down to may fair for coffee and catch up with friends and invited some to join us at field house for games.
We played 5s and 3s Dominos a new game to us supported by our new resident joe and while the men played their game Dan our chef enjoyed showing the ladies a new card game that they really enjoyed.
New Year's Day Party
New year’s day party at Field House was a total susses! The residents developed the agenda for the day, they wanted party games, so party games we had. We did a quiz and pass the parcel, to follow the games we had a play list of music that they had made including Abba the Rolling stones and Tom Jones.
Brenda couldn’t wait to have a dance as she told us that she hadn’t danced since she was in her teens
The staff also joined in and had a fantastic time.
To finish the afternoon we enjoyed a fantastic buffet prepared by Paula our chef.
