Activities at Florence Court Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience, and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jessica Duery

Senior Activities Co-Ordinator

I have been working in the Care Sector for 5 years and started out as a Domestic and Laundry Assistant. I decided that I wanted to progress my career in an Activities capacity so became an activities provider then progressed to an Activities Co-Ordinator which I did for 2 years prior to joining the team at Florence Court . I have a real passion for Activities and get a great deal of pleasure in enriching the residents life's through meaningful activities. I love getting to know the residents and spending time with them finding out what they love to do. Every day is very different and rewarding.

Flower arranging fun

Our residents enjoyed some flower arranging in preparation for our Jubilee Garden Party. There was great laughter and debate about what the best flowers are. It was lovely to hear about which flowers the residents like and had in their own gardens.

Trip to the Cinema to see The Downton Abbey film A New Era

Last week 2 of our lovely residents said they would like to go to the cinema to see the new Downton Abbey film. We booked tickets for the local cinema in Whiteley Village and 2 of our team members accompanied them. Everyone enjoyed the film, sweets and ice cream. It was lovely to see the big smiles on their faces.

88th Birthday Celebrations for one of our Residents

Resident Terry celebrated his 88th Birthday with a surprise party hosted in our Sky Terrace. Terry was joined by his family to celebrate his special day. The Chef prepared a party spread and made Terry a chocolate birthday cakes as this is his ultimate favourite. Everyone had a lovely time and Terry's family wrote a lovely thank you letter to Connor and Emma from our kitchen team for all their help with the party.

Visit from Woodlands Nursery to drop of some paintings for our Residents

Today we received a visit from the children from Woodlands Nursery along with Daisy the Manager and some of the staff. The Nursery is located just down the road from the Home and the children walked to drop off some paintings they had done for the Residents. It was lovely to see all the children and the residents loved receiving their paintings. We are arranging for the children to visit again and come and meet all the residents within the next few weeks.

Adding some colour to the Homes Garden

Some of the residents have been enjoying helping Rob our Head of Maintenance adding some colour to the garden. They have been busy planting some bedding plants and fruit trees. Rob has also built some planters which over the next few weeks he will be plating with the residents. Gardening is very relaxing and gives our residents a real sense of purpose. Everyone loves getting out in the garden as often as we can so we are really excited to watch the progress as the garden plants become established and the trees grow.
