Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

A helping hand

Residents and staff at Fountains love spending time in the garden, getting fresh air, enjoying the sunshine, and most of all helping with the gardening.

Our maintenance man really appreciates having help from our residents and our residents enjoy having a sense of purpose and getting stuck in. From cutting the grass to planting seeds, it’s all great fun!

It’s a real team effort to get our garden ready for the summer

St Patrick's Day - Part 2 celebrations

Residents and staff at Fountains care home celebrated St Patrick’s day Part 2.

A delicious and traditional lunch of Irish stew with soda bread was enjoyed and a decadent Irish cream cheesecake was for dessert.

Fountains residents then linked up with the  Irish residents of Meadow View care home based in Northern Ireland.

Everyone thoroughly enjoyed meeting each other for the first time via zoom and learning how everyone had celebrated St Patrick’s Day. A game of themed bingo broke the ice and there was a lot of laughter and winners

In the evening residents enjoyed whisky tasting whilst listening to traditional Irish folk music. A great day was had by all.

St Patrick's Day

Fountains celebrated St Patrick’s Day with a virtual tour of the West Coast of Ireland with a nice cold Guinness. Residents described the tour as “breathtaking” and thoroughly enjoyed taking in the views.

Fountains have connected with an Irish care home called “Meadow View Care Home” which is located in Northern Ireland. To mark St Patrick’s Day residents wrote letters to introduce themselves to their new Irish friends before enjoying River dance, which got everyone’s toe tapping!

As Fountains welcomes a new resident who was born in Ireland, we decided to delay the rest of the celebrations until the weekend, so as Veronica can be part of them and to help her feel at home.

Meadow View and Fountains will be meeting virtually to introduce themselves and enjoy an activity across the waters before enjoying a traditional Irish supper along with whisky tasting.

Happy St Patrick’s Day!

Flowers by Zoom

Fountains continue to receive beautiful bouquets of flowers from Marks & Spencer’s through our community friend Sue, who always remembers us on her deliveries.

As a treat for Mother’s Day we saved some of the flowers and enjoyed a creative flower arranging session with Sue via zoom in Brueton lounge.

This session challenged us all a little more that the one before, as we turned our simple oasis into a basket effect, using weeping willow collected from the grounds.

We then went on to produce a bright display of flowers. The results were really impressive, for a first attempt and everyone felt rather proud of their efforts.

Brueton lounge smelt like a florists and the wonderful scent filled the home and could be smelt for many hours after the activity.

A big thank you to Sue for being an excellent teacher and bringing a lot of joy to our residents.

Mum's the word

Residents at Fountains care home celebrated Mother’s Day with a welcome return to indoor visiting. The home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers for the occasion.

For residents at Fountains care home the long awaited reunion with one family member has become a reality, as one single named visitor is now allowed to visit each resident in their bedroom, just in time for Mother’s Day.

Despite the need for testing and social distancing, it was still welcome news for so many residents and their family members to be able to meet in the comfort of their bedroom. Residents and their designated family member enjoyed getting together and catching up face to face.

To celebrate Mother’s Day with residents at the home, staff arranged a Mother’s Day celebration which went on into the evening with dancing and glasses of fizz to mark the occasion.  Chef at the home, Colin Buss, prepared a delicious high tea with sandwiches, scones and a scrumptious selection of freshly baked cakes.

It was such a special day. This is the first cautious step towards having a buzz of visitors in the home again. It was wonderful to see how happy it made the residents and their relatives.

Happy Mother's Day!
