Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Five Sisters Zoo visit

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed a virtual talk hosted by Five Sisters Zoo.

Five Sisters Zoo was officially established in 2005 with just a small collection of rabbits, guinea pigs, goats and pigs. Since then, the zoo has grown into an amazing collection of over 160 different animal species from all over the world.

One of the most important initiatives of the zoo is to provide permanent homes for rescued bears, lions and other animals that have been part of travelling circuses.

Our residents loved seeing the wildlife and shared stories with each other of their favourite animals too. Everyone loved the leopards and the lions

It was a wonderful afternoon, enjoyed by us all.

Thank you Five Sisters Zoo.

Gardens in bloom

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed a marvellous afternoon of craftwork. Our task was to bring extra colour to our garden by creating a selection of beautiful hanging baskets.

Everyone got busy with their own selection of blooms and, inspired by their recent Zoom flower arranging sessions hosted by Sue – showed off their creative talents.

Soon we had five glorious baskets to admire. A real treat for everyone to enjoy.

Earth Day

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed celebrating Earth Day together with a variety of themed activities including walks in the sunshine, planting and gardening and some well-earned restful relaxation.

Each year, Earth Day is celebrated to remind each of us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and substance. At Fountains we truly love spending time outdoors, basking in the sunshine and enjoying the wildlife in our gardens.

To start the celebrations residents came together to plant colourful flowers in our raised beds and enjoyed making the garden look even more beautiful.

With the help of our maintenance man we then located the perfect spot to plant our very own apple tree! It was a marvellous team effort and everyone is thrilled with the end result. Our residents are looking forward to helping it grow and having fresh apples long into the future.

We then sat back and relaxed in the sun, appreciating the beautiful landscape we are so lucky to have around us here at Fountains.

Happy Earth Day everyone!

Double celebration

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed a double birthday celebration today... one for the Queen and one for our own resident Gloria.

Everyone enjoyed a morning of living like royalty . We took virtual tours of Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle. Everyone was amazed at the beauty and went on to share their own memories of visiting royal properties.

Then, in the afternoon we celebrated Gloria’s birthday with a fabulous Rock ‘n’ Roll party!  Our kitchen team created a delicious spread of cream cakes, scones and finger sandwiches and the wine and prosecco was flowing.

Of course our dancing duo had a fabulous time showing off their moves, and all of our residents had a wonderful afternoon celebrating Gloria’s special day!

Gloria was delighted with her party and said she’d had the most fantastic day.

“Happy Birthday Gloria” from your Fountains Family.

Volunteering in the community

Fountains Home Service Advisor Lorraine Shannon supported Shirley Lions this morning, with collections of food parcels, kindly donated by residents of Monkspath.

Lorraine, on behalf of Fountains care home  has been volunteering with Shirley Lions since the pandemic in conjunction with The Trussell Trust to collect and distribute food parcels to those in need.

It was a perfect sunny morning to help out and once again our community did not let us down and the car was soon full with generous donations.

A big thank you to everyone and to Shirley Lions for co-ordinating these collections.
