Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Top marks

Fountains continue to retain their 10/10 rating for March since enjoying reaching the top in January 2021.

Well done to the Fountains family for all their hard work and commitment and for the wonderful family and friends of our residents, who took the time to rate their experience of the care, facilities and support provided.

A celebration of books and their benefits.

Fountains care home in Shirley, Solihull opened in May 2020 and residents celebrated their very first World Book Day together.

A day of book led activities saw Staff and residents each read pages of the book  “Visiting Grandad’s new home” by Virginia Ironside and recorded a video of the story being told.

The story is about Emma’s grandad, who moves into a care home due to living with dementia and needing more support and care.

The book is to support younger members of the family to understand dementia a little more and what to expect when visiting a grandparent or other family member in their new environment. It is a really excellent resource

We have 35 copies of “visiting Grandad’s new home” and “visiting Gran’s new home” to give away to families who may be facing this sensitive subject with children.

Please contact us to request a copy/copies at fountains.reception@barchester.com or call us on 0121 733 8602 and ask for Lorraine Shannon.

World Book Day 2021

Fountains residents and staff enjoyed celebrating World Book Day.

The day started with our audio book club by the fire and a chapter from Little Women being our chosen book of the month.

We had a lovely reading of “Gruffalo” from John Weaver at Mereside Farm Children’s Nursery  - in full Gruffalo costume too! Our residents loved seeing him dressed up and listening to his story.

We added a little creativity into the day and residents made their own bookmarks celebrating everyone’s favourite books and what reading means to everyone.

A big thank you to the staff team for dressing up as characters from their favourite books. We had a Where’s Wally, Linguini from Ratatouille, Delia Smith and Bob and Wendy The Builder.

World Wildlife Day 2021

2021 World Wildlife Day was all about how to keep a sustainable planet for our animals to live in. Our residents and staff were fascinated to learn ways in which we can play a part and we created a colourful display together.

A virtual tour of Edinburgh Zoo was enjoyed and residents saw monkeys’, lions, penguins and flamingos, to name but a few. It was really enjoyable to understand how the animals were looked after and how they spend their day in “zoo life”.

There was a talk about fascinating animal tales and residents met Ham the Chimp that went to space, as well as Unsinkable Sam, the cat that survived a sinking Navy Ship.

With the theme this year being sustaining our planet, it felt fitting to end the day with David Attenborough “A perfect Planet”.

Birthday Celebrations

Doreen celebrated her 92nd birthday and shared a high tea with her friends and staff team at Fountains.

The hospitality team laid on a spectacular spread with Doreen’s favourite - a chocolate birthday cake.

No birthday is complete without some bubbles and a glass of wine or two and of course dancing!

It was a really lovely celebration and Doreen was so thrilled with her chocolate birthday cake. She said she had enjoyed the most wonderful birthday with her Fountains Family.

Happy Birthday Doreen with love.
