Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

St David's Day

To mark the Day Fountains staff and residents enjoyed an art class using paints, materials and colours to produce Wale’s national emblem - the daffodil.

Everyone had fun learning some welsh phrases such as good morning and good night before relaxing and enjoying a virtual tour of the stunning St David’s Cathedral.

Prize Draw for Random Acts of Kindness Day

For Random Act of Kindness Day we ran a Facebook competition and asked entrants to like and share our page whilst tagging a worthy individual to receive a Random Act of Kindness too.

The Prize Draw Generator picked Linda Watson as our winner and her tagged individual was Poppy Watson.

Both lucky ladies will receive a £25 voucher of their choice.

Thanks to everyone for entering!

Real Bread Week - Part 3

The 3rd and final part of Real Bread Week saw residents and staff make their own Pizza bases and then turning them into delicious pizzas.

Shaping them into the perfect pizza base became quite a competition between residents and created some real laughs J

Residents chose their toppings and they had pepperoni, pineapple, olives, sun dried tomatoes, mushrooms, cheese – the list was endless.

What better way to enjoy delicious pizza, than with a glass of wine and a James Bond Movie – it was the perfect end to Real Bread Week.

Real Bread Week- Part 2

Residents and staff enjoyed making a Brioche tear and share loaf.

It was nice after a savoury loaf to enjoy a sweet one.

The dough was kneaded and rolled out before raisins, currants and chocolate chips were added

Adding the dough to the baking tin was a team effort ensuring it looked perfect, before a final egg wash.

The brioche loaf went into the oven and the sweet smell filled the kitchen.

Everyone was eager to see and taste the end result.

They weren’t disappointed as the loaf turned out perfectly and tasted really good with a nice cup of tea.

Real Bread Week - Part 1

Real bread week was launched by the Real Bread Campaign in 2009 and is an annual, international celebration of real bread and the people who make it.

Fountains wanted to mark the week by making different breads and enjoy tasting sessions.

Our residents started off the baking by making a cheese and onion sourdough loaf and a wholemeal granary loaf too.

Kneading the dough was a lot of fun and doubled up as a sensory activity too. Everyone was in agreement though that it was a lot of hard work too!

Watching the dough rise was very satisfying but not quite as much as sampling the end result.

The loaves were accompanied with ham, cheese and grapes and washed down rather nicely with a nice cup of tea.

Ash Wednesday

Ash Wednesday was marked with a beautiful virtual Church service at Fountains, by St Albans Church.

Residents really enjoyed the service, reflecting and preparing for Lent.

Singing along to the hymns was particularly special and uplifting for everyone.

Virtual Church services are available each week for our residents to attend.

We look forward to when restrictions are eased and our residents can enjoy attending Church services in person.
