Activities at Fountains Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Hello I am Louise,  my first role with Barchester was caring for our residents.  Previously I worked in an early years environment for 17 years where I organised activities and events.  I am thrilled to now be Activities Lead and being able to continue enriching the life’s of our lovely residents here at Fountains.

Life at Fountains Care Home

National Biscuit Day.

Biscuit Day is a celebration of biscuits of all forms – not just cookies but also oatcakes, crackers, water biscuits and crispbreads.

Fountains residents celebrated National Biscuit Day by decorating their own homemade biscuits before enjoying them with a cup of tea.

Everyone agreed that National Biscuit Day is up there with one of the best awareness days!

Senior Health & Fitness Day

This is a day to consider all the ways we can help residents maintain their fitness levels, through gentle exercise both in smaller groups and individually as well as their health through nutrition and diet.

Fountains marked the occasion with 1:1 exercise in the form of dancing and walking, topped off with a variety of fruit and vegetable smoothies, prepared by our Head Chef, Darryl.

Moving forward our residents will be offered fruit smoothies in the morning and the afternoon, fruit salads morning and afternoon and at least 2 green vegetable offerings at lunch & supper to support with consuming the recommended "5 a day".

Fountains officially opens.

Fountains welcomed its first resident today.

The red carpet was rolled out to welcome our very own VIP.

Florence was presented with a beautiful bouquet, a welcome card signed by all of the team and an amazing welcome cake baked by our talented chefs, topped with sparklers, to mark the occasion.

It was a lovely day and our new resident beamed as she cut the cake. She told the team how happy she was and said “life is good” J

All the staff team were so pleased to see Fountains become home for our 1st resident.

Preparations underway

Staff at Fountains were excitedly putting the finishing touches together before throwing open their doors to welcome their first arrival.

The red carpet was rolled out for our very own VIP Florence who was the first resident to make Fountains home.

Big thanks to local businesses in the area who supported the occasion.

Inner Space Flooring for providing the red carpet. Beautiful bouquets for our residents were prepared by Lisa Flowers Floral Design and bespoke balloons by Pom Poms Party.

A Kind Donation

Pupils and staff from Blue Coat School in Harborne have been taking part in a sewing project to help NHS staff. They have been creating material laundry bags for local NHS staff to bring their uniforms home in after their shifts, and help to limit the spread of infection before they are then washed.

Over 220 bags have been cut ready to make and deliver to NHS staff, and 110 of these have already been distributed.

Blue Coat School kindly added Fountains Care to their deliveries, just in time for us to open on Monday 18th May. The staff were delighted with their bags and knitted ear protectors.

On behalf of the whole team, we would like to extend a huge thank you to all those pupils and staff involved. It was such a wonderful idea and a great example of communities pulling together.

2.6 Challenge

The team at Fountains took part in the 2.6 challenge. The London Marathon normally raises 66.4m for charities, so we joined in to help save UK Charities that have been severely affected by the coronavirus. Our chosen charity was Age UK Solihull. The team completed 26 laps of the grounds of our stunning new home in a relay.
