Activities at Hafan-Y-Coed Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Virtual Dog Show

We hosted a dog show competition via Facebook, and the 1st prize winner went to Zeus, a gorgeous 2 and a half year old German Shepherd.

Zeus won a cake, which was kindly donated by Doggy Desserts, Llanelli. You can see Zeus collecting his prize from Jean and having a fuss made of him from Anita.

Out & About... Finally

On the 7th May, some, residents enjoyed their first trip out in over a year. The activities team took them down to Burry Port Harbour for an ice cream and some sea air.

Staff Appreciation Day

Megan John, Nights Team Leader, and Maria Morgan, a Care Assistant, wanted to hold a staff appreciation day, particularly after the dedication of the team during the Covid-19 pandemic.

They reached out to the local businesses to see if they could donate a prize and the response was phenomenal, with over 100 gifts donated from over 60 companies. Every staff member received a gift!

Sweet Bakes

Louise Rolfe, Activities Coordinator, accepting money raised by Wendy of Holly’s Sweet Bakes, who hosted an Easter raffle to raise funds for our memorial garden. A total of £292 was raised. A huge thank you to Wendy for organising; you can follow her page on Facebook.

Aintree Ladies Day

Ladies Day didn’t quite go to plan with the sad news of the passing of HRH Prince Philip. The ladies were all dressed up and bets were placed, but as ITV then didn’t show the race, the ladies watched the footage and news about Prince Philip, while staff kept them updated with the winners of each race. They enjoyed a glass of Pimm's or bubbly and strawberries and cream. There was a prize for best dressed won by Jean Thorpe.

Easter Celebrations

Residents enjoyed a traditional lamb Sunday lunch. They all had an Easter egg, which were donated by Asda Llanelli, Morrisons Llanelli, family members and staff. The residents helped with  the drawing of the Easter raffle.
