Activities at Hagley Place Care Home
Activities plays a big part in the care we deliver to residents; activities staff are committed to organising a mix of activities and events for residents and the local community to get involved in, including trips out to local places of interest in our minibus and visits from entertainers and musicians. It is important to us that each individual who we support can get as much from these as possible, so we try our best to arrange activities that reflect their interests and capabilities as best as possible, and encourage them to participate in any way they can. We also encourage relatives to join in with activities and events as often as they can.
Mandy Hayward
I have a long background in the care industry and love to incorporate the outdoors in my activities. This role is very special as it allows me the time to get to know our residents and their families in a deeply personal way.

Life at Hagley Place Care Home
Having a Bear-illiant Time!
Residents at Hagley Place were having a lot of fun in the garden when the teddy bears came out of the woods and had their picnic on the back lawn. The sandwiches made by residents went down a treat and the teddies thoroughly enjoyed the honey ones the most! It was a lovely day and we were all grateful for the gazebo, which kept us in the shade during one of the hottest weeks of the year.
Fundraising Week
Hagley Place has been raising money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation and Shropshire Mind. All week we have been making cakes, dressing up and using our market stall to raise money - and we succeeded in raising over £350!
These activities were part of a Barchester initiative called 'Fundraising Week' (12th to 17th June), which is held every year. The week aims to help raise money and awareness for numerous charities, including Barchester’s Charitable Foundation.
The week’s events culminated in a highly successful open day on Saturday 17th, with a big raffle, tombolas, Pimm's and live entertainment. The Mayor and Mayoress of Ludlow attended the event, along with residents, loved ones and local visitors to mark Care Home Open Day, a day when care homes open their doors to strengthen links with the community and have fun.
Barchy Bear's Adventure
Barchy Bear (and a few friends) went to Ludlow Market and introduced the local population to Barchester's Charitable Foundation and Hagley Place Care Home!
He went off around the town to meet a few of the local business owners and to help gather prizes for our open day. He got himself into a little bother with a canon, so he hid in a flowerpot and then phoned for a lift back to Hagley Place.
A resident has become an ambassador for Hagley Place and is looking forward to the next adventure out with Barchy.
Volunteers' Week Spotlight: Nicky Bowler
Nicky is an amazing volunteer; she started out as a visitor, then helped out on trips with our Activities Coordinator. Nicky began helping out with activities around May 2016, after her mother moved into the home. She mentions that she loves talking to people and learning about their life experiences, and especially enjoys making people smile.
The Sights of Summer
Flower arrangements brighten up any home - and we have some extremely talented people working on our arrangements! Residents have created some fascinating displays that have been placed all over the home for everyone to appreciate.
Super Sun Catchers
At Hagley Place, we have been creating simple stained glass art for our windows and doors. Residents have enjoyed using permanent markers to add colour to acetate to make some wonderfully delightful sun catchers.
