Activities at Hilton Park Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Jenelyn Szabo

Activity Coordinator

Hello, my name is Jenelyn and I am the head of activities here at Hilton Park.

Having started my Barchester journey as a carer back in 2019, I have gained good experience of working closely with our residents. After being a carer I then moved onto the Activities team and thoroughly enjoyed working as an Activities co-ordinator, which led to my promotion to Activity Lead.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing the smiles on our residents faces.

Inter-Generational Fun at Hilton Park

We had a great day of inter-generational fun yesterday at Hilton Park where we were joined by Boogie Babes Newmarket for a session of Music and Movement for all ages.
The residents loved watching the children running around and couldn't wait to join in with singing the nursery rhymes and dancing with the Pom-Poms. They cannot wait until the next sessions on the 14th October.
At Hilton Park we know that intergenerational activity is hugely beneficial to all involved as it encourages communication and social skills. Intergenerational contact also helps to develop language and reading confidence through shared activities, as well as increasing confidence and self-esteem. Lastly it helps children to develop empathy, care and kindness, helping them to understand and talk more positively about ageing and older people.

A very special coffee morning

Our Macmillan Coffee Morning was a wonderful success, filled with scrumptious treats and a warm, welcoming atmosphere. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us to support such a worthy cause, especially our lovely local WI members, families, and friends. Thanks to your generosity, we raised an amazing £102 through the raffle and donations. A special congratulations to Susan, who won the gorgeous hamper kindly donated by Tesco Community, and presented by our Home Advisor, Denis. It's all in aid of this fantastic cause together, we're making a real difference for those affected by cancer.

It's a Dogs life

What a lovely day we've had at Hilton Park!

Our furry friend Yinyang paid us a visit, brightening everyone's day with her special charms. Yinyang, an adorable Spaniel owned by our wonderful staff member Monica, spread happiness as she made her way around the community.

A heartfelt thank you to Monica for sharing Yinyang's love and joy with us!

Centennial's day out

We had the privilege of sharing a truly memorable journey with two of our oldest and dearest residents at Hilton Park, 105-year-old Marion and soon-to-be 105-year-old Dorothy, on a visit to Ely Cathedral . Both ladies were wonderfully chatty, with Marion's curiosity keeping Dorothy wide awake as she asked endless questions! They were full of energy and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the cathedral. It was such a special and heartwarming experience for them both.  Well done, Marion and Dorothy!

Mexican Independence Day

To celebrate Mexican Independence Day, our activities team dressed in vibrant Mexican costumes, as some of our residents have Mexican heritage. In the morning, they hosted an armchair travel experience, where residents enjoyed a virtual tour of Mexico’s tourist spots, followed by a treat of nachos.  In the afternoon, the team visited individual rooms, surprising residents with their colourful outfits and more nachos. It truly made their day! "It's lovely to see such a variety of activities," Iris said.

Bill's joyful reunion

It was a special day at Hilton Park when we were treated to an afternoon of live music courtesy of the Wicken Coronation Brass Band. No one was more delighted than Bill when he once again held the instrument he had played for so many years. He was absolutely over the moon, listening to the traditional music he has cherished for over five decades. It was such a lovely afternoon for all of us, and truly heartwarming to see our dear residents so happy, especially as Bill reunited with a few of his friends who are still playing in the band, and a few who came just to see him. A huge thank you to Wicken Coronation Brass Band , especially to Pat, the band’s coordinator, for making one of our resident's wishes come true.  We can’t wait to welcome you back again!
