Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Tammy Carpenter

Activities Coordinator

Hello, my name is Tammy, I am the Activities coordinator. I joined Hyacinth House as one of the Night Seniors, I am so happy and proud to be part of the Hyacinth team.  All my colleagues are so passionate about our journey together and what we are doing, we all share the Barchester values and keep them at the forefront of our minds.

My journey into the Care Sector started more than 6 years ago, initially working as Agency to see if I was the right fit for care work. I instantly fell in love with all aspects of care and getting the chance to work in difference places, gaining experience and knowledge, working and caring for a variety of people in their homes and in a residential/dementia care setting.  I've learnt so much and I completed my NVQ Level 3  and continue to pursue further qualifications.

I enjoy getting to know our residents, learning about them as an individual; their likes, dislikes, and their lives outside the home.  I am very passionate about improving the lives of those I support and the importance of continuing their interests.

In my personal life I am very active, with family life and with two Cocker Spaniels, there is never a dull moment. With a passion for adventure and hiking, with water sports thrown in and always up for trying something new.  Also a keen photographer, I enjoy getting my camera out to capture moments.

I look forward to welcoming you at Hyacinth, and capturing the moments we create together.

Enjoying a beautiful day with some outdoor fun and exercise!

Walking is so important for our residents to maintain their mobility and we're lucky to have wide walkways and cycle paths on our doorstep, it's the perfect way to stay active safely.

A regular walk to the horse field is the favourite, here is David and Doug making new friends, armed with chopped apples and carrots.

We just love these photos and how the horses just know how to be around people and so gentle and somewhat goofy. The moment was captured perfectly!

What a whirlwind weekend at Hyacinth House!

We had a fantastic Open Day recently, welcoming visitors to experience life at our home, an opportunity to look round and speak to our residents and team.

From mouth-watering samples of food crafted by our talented chefs, an engaging flower arranging session, the wonderful vocal talents of Sally Singer and Musician filled our morning with music, finishing off the day with a competitive game of scrabble or two.

Plus, in celebration of National Tea Day, Tammy, our Activities Co-ordinator treated everyone to a tea-tasting experience with fascinating facts and history on tea. Residents got to sample some unusual blends including a flower bomb, though we did have a giggle at the glass teapot Tammy bought, it was a tad too small for the flower bomb!

A day out to The Tank Museum

We had a wish from one of our residents who recently relocated to this area, to visit The Tank Museum. Ex-military it was very dear to his heart, Conrad was joined by his son-in-law. We had a fantastic day learning about the history of military vehicles and more. It was humbling to hear our amazing residents speak of their personal experiences and share memories.

After stopping for a delicious picnic prepared by our Chef we were back taking in the sights, before heading back home.

We wish to thank the team at the tank museum for the warm welcome we received, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit.

Let's get planting!

Let's get planting!

As we entered Spring our keen gardeners here at Hyacinth House began planning our lovely outside space and what they would love to see growing in the garden.

With the sun shining, it was time to take a trip out to start sourcing vibrant flowers to add colour and scent, in the hope to attract butterflies and bees, not forgetting our Chef's request for a large selection of herbs!

With tips being shared with Tammy and Ana, we discussed the seasons of the garden. What flowers worked best and when to start planting.

Residents are excited to get involved and create their vision.

Meet adorable Archie, the PAT (Pets As Therapy) cockapoo

Our residents had the treat of meeting Archie and his owner/handler, Paula, recently. After retiring from the NHS and teaching, Paula still wanted to support people and give back so does this voluntarily. Archie turned four years old last week, he is newly qualified and was wonderful on his visit - so calm and gentle with our residents.

During his visit he went to residents in their rooms and spent time with a few in a group setting. He was a very welcome visitor and big hit with the staff too, we couldn't resist giving him some fuss!

Thank you for coming along and making our day, we can't wait for his next visit.
