Activities at Hyacinth House Care Home

Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Anna Wasiak

Activities Coordinator

I am a friendly and enthusiastic Activity Coordinator with a passion for working with people and making a positive impact in their lives. I joined Hyacinth House in 2024 as a carer and excited to now be the Activities Coordinator. I have eight years experience in hospitality and three years in floristry. I bring creativity, strong interpersonal skills and a warm welcoming approach to my role. My background has given me the ability to connect with individuals, organise engaging activities, and create meaningful experiences that brighten people’s days. I love inspiring others, fostering a sense of community and bringing joy through thoughtful and inclusive activities.

Get together for Pimms and strawberries with cream.

It's important for our residents to feel supported, not just by friends and family but by the wider community around our home. Giving them the opportunity to meet new people and develop new friendships really does make the world of difference.

Recently, we were invited by our sister home, Parley Place Care Home - Barchester Healthcare, for an afternoon of strawberries and cream and a refreshing glass of Pimm’s. Our residents had a great time making new friends and socialising.

A big thank you to Parley Place for the wonderful time and we can't wait to see you all again.

Afternoon adventure in beautiful Sandbanks

Living in the area we do and being so close to the coast, we can not pass up on the opportunity to take a walk by the beach just to feel soft golden sand on our feet.

Our residents were fond of breathtaking views and observing summer life in this beautiful location.

It's Party time!

We recently had a very special birthday here at Hyacinth House as we celebrated Margot’s 90th.

The festivities started over the weekend when Margot’s family joined her for a very special and intimate family meal they had secretly planned with us (and we hear the cake our Head Chef Howard made was exquisite).

We have had the real pleasure of getting to know Margot over the past few months, and we’re so glad we could be a part of her special day.

Everyone here at Hyacinth would like to wish Margot the happiest of birthdays and we all hope she had a wonderful fun filled weekend.

Open Day special guests including Barney & Bilbo

Hyacinth House welcomed in the community to explore our beautiful home, meet General Manager Kamila and team, speak to our residents about life at Hyacinth House and sample food.

Our residents had a wonderful morning, starting with some flower arranging in the garden, next was an afternoon of tea and a live performance from the talented Nigel Revill, and just when we thought the day couldn’t get any better, we had a surprise visit from Barney and Bilbo the baby pygmy goats!

We all had a truly wonderful day, thank you to all of you that visited and made it that much more special.

Joining Generations Program ~ Tops Preschool

As part of their joining generations program, Tops Preschool has been enjoying regular visits to Hyacinth House.

This is a fantastic opportunity to build wonderful relationships by sharing stories and doing crafts together. We all had so much fun making pictures, playing games, speaking to everyone, and enjoying the bus journey too!

We're looking forward them coming back again soon!

'Get Barchester Moving' campaign

We thought we'd share more exercise classes available to our residents and open for the community to join. Whether it's a walk or class we consider it a priority and is essential for supporting our residents' mobility.

We are excited to introduce Stuart, from Age Well Dorset Physio, a specialist in seated yoga and a trained physiotherapist. Stuart offers expert advice on joint health and movement, helping everyone learn how to take better care of themselves.

Kate from Love to Move Dorset a regular at Hyacinth runs a fun and interactive class to music and Jackie Bushen from Chair exercise sessions is coordination and stretching. From all of these you certainly feel the benefits!

Residents really engage with each class and enjoy the variety of exercises on offer.
