Activities at Juniper House Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Letter From The King

Our residents and staff alike were delighted to receive a letter from HRH King Charles this week after sending handmade cards to him back in June for his official birthday.

Our resident ambassadors June and Pam took great pride in opening and reading the letter and sharing their delight with all the other residents.

Juniper House we celebrate birthdays not just as a mark of ageing another year but as a celebration of life, achievements, and personal growth. It's a time for reflection, gratitude, and looking forward to future possibilities. Birthdays provide a special opportunity for us to help residents to gather with loved ones and create lasting memories.

Alan Kuvumkal takes on Everest for Charity!

In September, a brave and intrepid team member will be tackling a 15 day trek to Nepal to take on Everest’s Base Camp in order to raise money for the Teenage Cancer Trust.

Alan Kuvumkal is just 21 years old, he joined Barchester four years ago first working at Chacombe Park in Banbury before moving to Juniper House where he works as a Kitchen Assistant last year.  He is studying Aerospace Engineering at Swansea University but come September he will be donning his hiking boots and using sheer grit and determination to climb to Everest’s Base Camp, in order to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust.

A seasoned athlete, Alan has played badminton for many years, representing first Oxfordshire County and then Swansea University, competing in both tournaments and national leagues. He has always been an adventure seeker and has climbed Snowdon and Pen y Fan before setting his sights on this significantly bigger international challenge.  Alan hopes to raise £2,800 for Teenage Cancer Trust, an important cause which is close to his heart.  If you would like to support him, his justgiving page is: Alan Kavumkal is fundraising for Teenage Cancer Trust (justgiving.com) and any donations will be gratefully received.

Alan comments: “This is my first time taking on a challenge on this scale and I’m really excited to tackle it but also very nervous, especially about what the weather and altitude sickness might throw at me!  I’m hoping to raise lots of money for Teenage Cancer Trust to support cancer research and treatment initiatives, making a significant impact on the lives of teenagers battling cancer.  I know all the staff, residents and relatives at Juniper House are behind me plus I have a great group of people climbing with me and all their support along with the money I’m raising will help me go the distance!”

Lucia’s Tiny Farm visits us here at Juniper House

Wow! What an exciting day we had with a very special visit from Lucia’s Tiny Farm, a small local business providing friendly animal encounters.

We were visited by so many animals including, a chicken, rabbits, guinea pigs, rats, bearded dragon and tortoise.  Our residents couldn’t believe their eyes as all these animals entered our doors. One of our residents said “I haven’t held a rabbit since I was 5 or 6, this is amazing”. It’s safe to say this day was one to remember.

Outing to Brackley Football Club

Once again we all had fun at The All Saints Community Project Coffee Morning based at Brackley Town Football Club. This is a community project that takes place most Wednesday mornings, with a range of activities for the community to enjoy. This particular week we visited one of our football obsessed residents was especially happy  as he loved having a look around the football grounds! The residents said that “Football is my passion!”.

Outing to Marks and Spencer’s in Banbury

During one of Monthly Residents Meeting, when asked for any outing suggestions or ideas, a few of our ladies suggested going to M&S. With the fairly new m&S in Banbury not so far away, we boarded the mini bus for the morning for a spot of shopping. The ladies enjoyed having a look around at all the new summer clothes and shoes. We then of course stopped in the cafe for some delicious tea and cake! The favourite being their creamy hot chocolates and hot cross buns this time!

Chinese New Year

To celebrate Chinese New Year we transformed our coffee shop into a mini China Town. Our residents and staff tried some Chinese food whilst wearing China hats and waving pretty lace fans. Whilst listening to some traditional Chinese music and all red everything to bring some luck residents had a great time celebrating. Earlier on in the day we had a quiz all about the celebrations.

This year is the year of the dragon. So if you were born in 1940, 1952, 1964, 1976, 1988, 2000, 2012, and the impending 2024 you are said to embody a magnetic blend of ambition, confidence, and charisma.
