Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Lead

Hello,  I am Angela the Activities Lead.

I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.

With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!

During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Neil Wookey Performs!

We recently welcomed the fabulous Fretworks: Neil Wookey - Guitarist, into our home for a wonderful afternoon of live music...

Neil was fantastic and played some wonderful, familiar songs from yesteryear to entertain the Kings Park residents.

Everybody loved having some live music in their home and thoroughly enjoyed his performance, chatting about it long after he had left the building!

It's amazing how much music can bring people together, as well as spreading so much joy amongst everyone.

THANK YOU, Neil, for a fabulous time - We home to see you again very soon.

Celebrating Earth Day

Recently at Kings Park, we acknowledged Earth Day here in our home.

'What is Earth Day?', we hear you cry...

'Earth Day is an annual event on April 22 to demonstrate support for environmental protection. First held on April 22, 1970, it now includes a wide range of events coordinated globally by EARTHDAY.ORG (formerly Earth Day Network)[1] including 1 billion people in more than 193 countries.'

Not to be left out, here at Kings Park we celebrated Earth Day by getting some of our residents involved with doing something lovely for our garden environment here at Kings Park.

Residents spent an afternoon painting their designs on some wonderful, colourful pots to go on display in our garden, then later in the week, they planted the pots up with some beautiful, vivid and vibrant plants to add the finishing touch, with added pops of colour!

Take a look at their bright & cheerful display which they helped to create.

Getting Creative...

Residents here at Kings Park had a wonderful afternoon getting arty recently, with a little help from a couple of friends...

Two more wonderful students from Ferndown Upper School came in for a lovely session of arts & crafts, where they got involved with helping the residents to paint some homemade trinket boxes, which they had made earlier on in the week out of papier-mâché.

The girls were wonderful with our residents and it became a real social affair as they got creative and colourful with their boxes.

These kind of intergenerational activities are truly a blessing and really benefit everyone and we know the residents are always happy to see new faces and get to know them.

Thank you Ferndown Upper for sending us such lovely individuals, they have done you proud!

Take a look at their creations in the attached photos...

All Puzzled Out!

One wonderful mother & daughter duo are celebrating a little win here in the home recently...

The very lovely, Pauline, along with her daughter Julie, have together been working very hard and for a long while, trying to complete a puzzle that they started together a little while back.

We are very happy to finally report that it's mission completed!

Well done to you both - Bask in the glory for a while before you start on the next one.

64 Incredible Years!!!

Recently at Kings Park we celebrated with one of our lovely couples...

The very lovely Richard & Naomi were honouring each other with 64 years of married bliss!

To celebrate this very wonderful occasion, our amazing Chef, Wyn, made a delicious cake for them both to enjoy and much to their delight and surprise.

Huge congratulations to you both and we hope you have many more wonderful years to come!

From everyone here at Kings Park - HAPPY ANNIVERSARY to you both!

Back at the Scrabble...

Some of our Kings Park ladies gathered in the cafe area recently for another battle of Scrabble...

We certainly have some keen Scrabblers amongst our residents and the matches we host can often get very tense indeed as they see who will come out on top!

Thank you to the amazing, Emma, for hosting such a wonderful afternoon for the residents - They definitely enjoyed themselves.

Did you know...

That the word: oxyphenbutazone is worth a whopping 1778 points?

'Oxyphenbutazone is an anti-inflammatory drug and a recognized word in the Scrabble dictionary. It is theorized to be the highest scoring legal word that would actually fit on a Scrabble board. However, entire galaxies worth of stars would need to align in order to actually play this behemoth of a word in a game of Scrabble.'

Good luck getting that one!
