Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Claudia Canosa

Activities Lead

Claudia moved to the UK from her native South Africa with her family some 6 years ago, although her family are of Italian decent.

With a caring nature, Claudia worked for a domiciliary care company helping in people in the community before eventually working in a care home environment, working up to the role of Senior Carer.

Realising how much she enjoyed making the residents smile, Claudia has now stepped into the role of Activities Lead here at Kings Park and very much loves the interaction with our residents, who have all taken a real shine to her.

Claudia can regularly be seen with our residents in a very creative capacity, enjoying flower arranging or leading everyone in a game of good old fashioned Bingo!

When at home, Claudia is a mother to two boys and a girl and also a pet mum to the the gorgeous, Molly - a Jack Russell cross.

She loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa in front of a good rom/com, with:  The Holiday, The Lakehouse and The Notebook as some of her favourites to date.

We are so happy to have her as part of the Kings Park team.

Christmas Ukulele Concert

We want to just mention our wonderful friends, The Ferndown Strummers...

The Strummers (our local ukulele band) rehearse every other week here at Kings Park and as a 'Thank You', every now and again they treat us all to a wonderful concert.

So just before Christmas they came along to the home and did just that!

Thank you for your wonderful music this year and for the time you spend chatting with our residents in between all your rehearsals, it's much appreciated by all here at Kings Park!

Christmas Word Games

Just before Christmas, some of the residents had a fabulous afternoon of Scrabble, led by Activities Assistant, Vivian...

The Scrabble matches here at Kings Park can sometimes get VERY competitive, and this match was no exception!

Scrabble is one of the games that gets honed with experience and suffice to say, we have some very exceptional Scrabble aficionados living at Kings Park!

What festive board games get played in your Christmas household?

FUN FACT

Did you know that Monopoly is in fact banned in the UK's Royal households because it gets 'too vicious.'?

An Ode to Christmas

That time of year when smiles are bright,

The tree as all twinkling, full of light.

Residents laugh with festive fun,

The Christmas shenanigans have just begun!

A drop of sherry, a mince pie or two,

Presents given, there's one for you!

Christmas dinner with all the side dishes

Everyone making their Christmas wishes.

With tummies all full and the Kings speech on telly,

And too much turkey in everyone's belly!

The presents all opened and everyone smiling,

The scene before us is quite beguiling.

So from our happy home, wherever you are,

Merry Christmas one and all,

Near or far!

With love and best wishes this Christmas season from all at Kings Park!

Christmas Elves Out & About...

This week the Kings Park Elves along with their resident helpers have been out and about spreading some Christmas joy...

With the minibus load with some delicious homemade mince pies, from our wonderful Chefs, off we went singing as we drove to our stop-off points.

First was the wonderful team over at Penny’s Hill Practice, then the fabulous District Nursing team, both of whom are an AMAZING support throughout the year to all in our home.

Next we stopped off to see our neighbours at St. Mary's Church Ferndown, who were very happy that we stopped off, before heading to some wonderful friends of the home, Daphne & Peter, where Daphne happily had a quick selfie with our Home Services Advisor, Rebekah.

With plenty of Christmas cheer spread, our final stop was Haskins Garden Centre, for a mooch around the Christmas displays an even a little last minute Christmas shopping for some of the residents.

But whatever you are up to this Christmas eve, we would all like wish you a wonderful and peaceful Yuletide season!

MERRY CHRISTMAS one and all!

Fizz & Quiz

Residents here at Kings Park have been having a very busy pre-Christmas week, having lots of fun...

Everyone gathered in the ground floor lounge recently for an afternoon of drinks, nibbles, music, dancing and a Christmas Quiz.

There was much merriment and twirling on our makeshift dance floor, including a rendition of the Locomotion!

The residents then did their utmost to battle it out to become Kings Park's Christmas Quiz Champion for 2023, with the title ultimately going to the lovely Christine,

What a wonderful afternoon was had by all.
