Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angela Cawsey

Activities Lead

Hello,  I am Angela the Activities Lead.

I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.

With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!

During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Dementia Action Week: World Bee Day!

Recently in our home we explored one of our most favourite senses - That of taste!

With it being World Bee Day, a day for us to think about how we can protect our bees and other important pollinators and the essential job that they do, we thought it only right and proper to celebrate by sampling the sweet deliciousness that is...HONEY!

Residents from all of our home gathered together to taste some yummy honey and share their thoughts.

The conversation that followed, then turned to songs with 'honey', 'sweet' or 'sugar' mentioned in them, which then turned into an impromptu sing-along!

'Kiss me, honey, honey, kiss me!  Thrill me, honey, honey, thrill me!'

The afternoon ended with a bee documentary for everyone to watch in our lounge.

What a fantastically sweet afternoon it was.

Dementia Action Week: Out & About...

It's so lovely to be able to get out and about with our residents...

Enabling the people we care for to have a change of scene is so valuable, to allow them the opportunity to get out of the home for a short while and reminisce and chat about their favourite places to visit, as well as explore new ones - even ones on their doorstep that they have never seen!

Getting out is so wonderful for everyone's mental health, especially to see the beautiful countryside around...

So today we ventured to the other side of Wimborne for a leisurely drive through the avenue of trees, up to Badbury Rings, then back to see Kingston Lacy House, before heading home for a very well deserved cuppa and some cake!

We even learned a little bit about the history of it all.

Dementia Action Week: Getting Green Fingered

Recently here at Kings Park, some of our residents have been getting green-fingered as they pot up some sunflowers to add some brilliant rays of yellow sunshine into the garden...

Gardening is said to be really good for mental health and is the perfect tonic for many of our residents to lift their mood.

Sensory activities are a wonderful way to engage and really beneficial with or without dementia and so gardening is just one of the many ways we are able to enrich the lives of those in our care.

Nurturing and growing plants in and around our home also enables our residents to be involved in the garden and the best bit is... They absolutely LOVE it!

We cannot wait to see whose sunflower grows the tallest in our sunflower competition - Let the games begin!

To kick the week off, here at Kings Park our residents up on our Memory Lane floor were getting very active indeed during a very excitable game of balloon tennis this morning.

Balloon tennis is really enjoyed by our residents and really breaks the ice, gets everybody moving and engaging with each other and more importantly brings a lot of joy to our home!

Balloon tennis; exercising both body and mind!
