Activities at Kings Park Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Claudia Canosa

Activities Lead

Claudia moved to the UK from her native South Africa with her family some 6 years ago, although her family are of Italian decent.

With a caring nature, Claudia worked for a domiciliary care company helping in people in the community before eventually working in a care home environment, working up to the role of Senior Carer.

Realising how much she enjoyed making the residents smile, Claudia has now stepped into the role of Activities Lead here at Kings Park and very much loves the interaction with our residents, who have all taken a real shine to her.

Claudia can regularly be seen with our residents in a very creative capacity, enjoying flower arranging or leading everyone in a game of good old fashioned Bingo!

When at home, Claudia is a mother to two boys and a girl and also a pet mum to the the gorgeous, Molly - a Jack Russell cross.

She loves nothing more than curling up on the sofa in front of a good rom/com, with:  The Holiday, The Lakehouse and The Notebook as some of her favourites to date.

We are so happy to have her as part of the Kings Park team.

Mega-Pint Alert!

Ok, not really a mega-pint but residents did enjoy celebrating National Beer Day yesterday. The weather played ball as we had a beer tasting afternoon alongside traditional bar snacks and a friendly quiz about all things beer related.

Did you know that Beer is one of the oldest beverages in the world, dating back to 5000BC?!

Do you know some of these well known beer quotes?

“Always ask for cask”

“Fermentation may have been a greater discovery than fire”

“He was a wise man who invented beer”

“I never met a pub I didn’t like”

Cheers!

Fruit….The Barchester Way!

What a hot day it has been and although we always ensure we are offering fresh fruit as part of a balanced nutritional diet, fruit is also a great way to help keep our fluid intake up.

Our Chef, Wyn, prepared this amazing fruit platter full of variety and tastes and to say he put a raspberry on top is an understatement! He even carved our Barchester logo into a juicy watermelon.

Thank you Wyn….needless to say everything here was very tasty

May's Employee of the Month Award goes to......

Congratulations to Ben for being nominated our Employee of the Month!

Ben is one of our many fabulous Care Assistants who always goes above and beyond for our residents. One relative wrote on their nomination “Ben is always caring, polite and bubbly - traits I’m sure Barchester would be proud of and so we call him Mr Barchester!”

Our General Manager, Sohail, awarded Ben with his voucher and certificate and thanked him for his hard work and commitment to the Kings Park family.

Well done Ben!

Kings Park at St. Martins URC Festival

Thank you St Martins URC, West Moors. for your jam packed couple of days with lots of entertainment from Zumba to the Gospel Choir and then onto some Italian Music!

It was lovely to see you all and we look forward to attending your Community Sing-a-long soon!

Thank you to All Carers!

Thank you to all our Carers and to all the unpaid carers in our community!

Our General Manager, Sohail, was delighted to give every Kings Park Carer a Goody Bag to say ‘Thank You’ to our team as each team member has a part to play in caring for our residents. By using a 'whole home approach' Kings Park delivers person centred care to each individual resident.

Carers Week is an annual campaign to raise awareness of caring, highlight the challenges unpaid carers face and recognise the contribution they make to families and communities throughout the UK. It also helps people who don't think of themselves as having caring responsibilities to identify as carers and access much-needed support.

The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.

Carer Support Dorset Conference

What a fantastic morning at the Carer Support Dorset’s Conference Lucy, our Home Services Advisor, has attended today.

Lots of ideas of how to make Dorset an unpaid carer friendly county and an opportunity to meet other like minded people within our community, including Judy Walker - CEO of Carer Support Dorset & Wiltshire.

We are running a Community Cafe here at Kings Park every third Tuesday of the month 2pm - 3:30pm, which is open for all and free to attend.

We are also planning several informative talks throughout the year, which are free for our local community to attend. The first of these is our ‘Understanding Dementia’ talk on the 14th June - starts at 6pm and there will be Cheese & Wine refreshments. Please call 01202 863630 to book your place!
