Activities at Kings Park Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Read our brochure ‘Life-enriching activities’ for more information about life in our care homes.

Angela Cawsey
Activities Lead
Hello, I am Angela the Activities Lead.
I am delighted to be part of the team at Kings Park after a transferring from a sister home in Salisbury, following my relocation to this area.
With experience in this role, my passion is bringing joy to our residents, whether on a one-to-one basis or in groups. I love getting to know each resident and incorporating their interests into engaging, meaningful activities and events that nurture the mind, body and spirit to enhance their well-being and life enrichment at our home. Making people smile is what I do best!
During lockdown, I ran daily Zoom sessions for well-being, including bingo and quizzes. When my children were young I volunteered as a helper at Boys Brigade and St John's Ambulance which was very rewarding. I love being a Grandma, music, crafts, the outdoors and animals - I have just started a new hobby of wild swimming with friends.
Celebrating life at Kings Park Care Home
Precious Moments from our Community Café
We had a real treat at our last Community Café with a visit from The Creature Teachers. If you'd like to come along to the next one we meet here the 1st Thurs of every month at 10.30am-12pm and everyone is welcome.
A Journey of Calm and Discovery
This week we welcomed Peaceful Pathways Dorset - Jane Scanlan who led us through a morning of true relaxation. We began with some gentle breathing before exploring fascinating instruments from around the world – including a rain drum, Tibetan singing bowls and even an African frog.
The soothing sounds were so calming that one of our residents even drifted off into a peaceful nap. Everyone enjoyed having a go, asking lots of questions, soaking up the atmosphere.
To end our journey, Jane treated us to a hand massage session, the perfect way to round off a tranquil morning.
Cue the Fun
Eric and Bert love a good game of snooker, it’s the perfect way to spend the afternoon. Even our maintenance man, Bernie couldn’t resist!
A Beautiful Day
A lovely moment captured of our residents with family and friends enjoying refreshments together in our beautiful garden.
Happy National Dog Day!
This day was all about our four-legged friends here in Ferndown and what a paw-some day it’s been! We’d love to see your furry friends too – pop a photo in the comments!
We had the joy of welcoming Carrot, the cuddly Jackadoodle belonging to our Activities Lead Angela, and Joey, the cheeky Staffy cross owned by our Maintenance chap Bernie. Both pups were absolutely showered with love – plenty of strokes, cuddles, and a few sneaky treats from our residents! To round things off, a game of Doggy Bingo!
Here’s to all the wonderful dogs (and their owners!) who brighten our days.
Pamper Afternoon
This afternoon some of our ladies enjoyed a relaxing hand pamper with manicures leaving them feeling refreshed and polished
Entertainment at Kings Park!
We were treated to a wonderful afternoon with the talented Tyler James - Vocalist, whose music truly lit up the home! From 40s, 50s and 60s swing classics to timeless musical favourites, it was an eclectic mix that we all enjoyed.
Two songs in particular stole the show – “On the Street Where You Live” from My Fair Lady and the lively “Dance the Night Away” by The Mavericks!
With over 25 years of professional performing experience, Tyler’s passion shines through in every note. His ethos is simple yet powerful: to bring happiness through music and nostalgia – and he certainly did just that for us.
Birthday alert!
We celebrated Diana’s special day! She spent the morning arranging her gift of fresh flowers, which is a passion of hers, before enjoying lots of birthday wishes and a delicious cake
Happy Birthday, Diana – we hope your day has been blooming lovely!
A Musical Summer Camp Visit to Brighten Our Day!
We were excited to welcome back Sunnyhill Ferndown to Kings Park for their annual visit! With just two days to learn their praise songs and actions, the children were amazing!
It was a lovely way to also celebrate the spirit of youth and fun around International Youth Day. Our residents were thrilled and really enjoyed the energy and hearing the upbeat songs! Thank you Sunnyhill and see you next year!
VJ Day Ceremony at Royal British Legion Ferndown
We joined the Royal British Legion in Ferndown for a moving VJ Day service, attended by the Ferndown Mayor, Chairman and Padre. Our resident, Captain Ted, proudly wore his medals and took part in the Act of Commitment and Lord’s Prayer. Afterwards, he enjoyed a cup of tea and shared stories with others who served, comparing medals and experiences. A truly heartfelt day remembering those who served.
All Aboard!
We had another wonderful trip on the Dolphin Cruises around Poole Harbour, sailing over to Brownsea Island.
A special thank you to Skipper Mike for his warm welcome on board and for sharing his fascinating local knowledge, which made the cruise even more enjoyable.
For National Book Lovers Day...
we had a coffee morning to discuss our favourite authors and books. From Black Beauty which was a prize from school to Poetry from Pam Ayres, the Famous Five and Stories from War Campaigns.
We have boxes of books delivered on a regular basis from Dorset Library Services, these were available on the tables for everyone to have a look through and borrow.

Gardening Club Produce
Our first tomato is turning red! The rest are on their way… grown with lots of care (and a bit of patience!) by our residents.
Bingo Fun at Kings Park!
Our chocolate prize bingo was a big hit with a great turnout, after all, who doesn’t love bingo and chocolate? Angela did a fantastic job as bingo caller! Her “two little ducks – 22” and “legs eleven – 11” were spot on, though a few of the other number calls were a bit… imaginative which only added to the laughter. And of course, it wouldn’t be bingo without the usual groans when someone else calls out that they’ve won!
Out in the Community!
A few of our ladies enjoyed a walk to Ferndown Library yesterday to join the Visually Impaired Café.
We heard a wonderful talk from the lovely Tori, who shared fascinating stories about the New Forest airfields and their role in the war effort. She’s had a passion for the subject since childhood — after finding bullets while walking there with her gran!
Everyone had a great time and we want to thank you for having us!
