Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Celebrating life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Mother's Day Celebrations
We were delighted to welcome families and friends to celebrate Mother’s Day with us at Llys Y Tywysog. It was a truly special occasion filled with warmth, laughter, and meaningful moments shared between loved ones. Residents enjoyed a lovely afternoon together, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come.
Our home was filled with smiles as everyone came together to honour the wonderful women in our lives. Thank you to all who joined us and made the day so memorable—your presence made it extra special for our residents.
Celebrating Burns' Night
Residents enjoyed a wonderful afternoon of music, celebration and good food as they came together to mark Burns Night.
The home welcomed talented singers Dave and Dai, who performed a selection of traditional Scottish songs, filling the lounge with lively melodies and familiar tunes. Residents clapped along, sang together and enjoyed the warm, cheerful atmosphere created by the live performance.
To make the celebration even more special, the home’s hospitality team prepared a delicious Scottish-themed meal for residents to enjoy. The traditional flavours added to the festive spirit and gave everyone the chance to experience a taste of Scotland alongside the music.
One resident shared how much they enjoyed the afternoon, saying:
“The music was wonderful and really lifted everyone’s spirits. It felt like a proper celebration, and the food was lovely too!”
It was a joyful day for everyone at Llys Y Tywysog, showing once again how music, food and community can create truly special moments.
Christmas Party!
Our Christmas party was a joyful celebration filled with laughter, colour, and togetherness, bringing residents, families, and staff together for a truly magical day. The home was beautifully decorated, and everyone embraced the festive spirit by dressing up in their favourite Christmas outfits. One of the highlights was a special appearance from our very own Elf on the Shelf mascot, who brought smiles, giggles, and plenty of photo opportunities for everyone.
The sound of Christmas music filled the room as we enjoyed delicious festive food and treats carefully prepared and shared together. Residents clapped along, sang their favourite songs, and even joined in with dancing as the party got into full swing. There were joyful dances and playful conga-style dance weaving their way around the room, creating moments of pure happiness and connection.
The atmosphere was warm, lively, and full of festive cheer. It was a wonderful reminder of how special it is to celebrate as one big family, creating cherished memories that will last long after the decorations come down.
Barbara and Marie’s Wish to Tenby!
Barbara and Marie wished on our wishing washing line for a visit to Tenby last week what a fabulous day we all had browsing around the shops meeting lots of people with their dogs enjoying the Beautiful sunshine.
Of course a stop to pick up some flavoured rocks and delicious fudge to bring back home wouldn’t be a miss at the seaside.
Lunch at the lifeboat Inn. Tenby complete with an ice-cream overlooking the sea.
British flower week
Today we took a trip to our local garden centre in Pontarddulais. Residents enjoy going here to look at all of the beautiful flowers and to have a nice cup of coffee.
The residents also enjoy feeding the ducks in the pond. It’s a fun day for all to enjoy.
Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!
We enjoyed a wonderful celebration of St David’s Day, bringing together the local community to mark this special occasion in Wales.
We were delighted to join pupils from Pengelli Primary School and representatives from Grovesend & Waungron Community Council in the celebration. Our residents played an important role in preparing for the day by creating beautiful daffodil centrepieces, proudly decorating the tables with Wales’ national flower.
The celebration continued with a lovely school concert where the children performed for everyone, filling the room with music, smiles and a real sense of community spirit. Residents thoroughly enjoyed watching the performances and sharing such a meaningful Welsh tradition with the younger generation.
Of course, no St David’s Day celebration would be complete without some traditional Welsh food. Residents tucked into delicious bowls of cawl, along with Bara Brith and Welsh cakes, making the day feel even more authentic and festive.
One resident said: “It was such a lovely day. Seeing the children perform and celebrating our Welsh traditions together made it really special.”
The day was a joyful reminder of the importance of community, culture and celebrating Welsh heritage together.
Party with Elvis!
We recently held a fabulous party to celebrate the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s birthday, and it was truly unforgettable. Our lounge was transformed as an Elvis impersonator took to the floor, dressed in classic style and singing all the hits everyone knows and loves. As soon as he began crooning “Wise men say, only fools rush in” smiles spread across the room and a few hearts began gently fluttering.
Our residents clapped, sang along, and some of our lovely ladies were clearly swept off their feet as “Love me tender, love me sweet” filled the air. The energy lifted even more when he moved into upbeat favourites from Jailhouse Rock, bringing laughter and toe-tapping fun.
The celebration was full of music, memories, and joy, proving that Elvis’s charm still works its magic across generations. It was a wonderful way to celebrate an icon and create special moments together.
GG's Gelato
A bus trip to GG's Gelato this morning for hot chocolate, lattes and toasted tea cakes. Our lovely ladies enjoyed the trip down to Penclawdd, reminiscing along the way chatting where they used to visit downtown Gower and where they would like to visit next. Thank you to the staff who always make our lovely residents welcome when we come to visit.
On return, there was a delicious Welsh rarebit waiting for the hospitality team to celebrate national Welsh rarebit day.
Music for health with Carl
Everybody loves Carl!
Some residents don’t like music or loudness or exercise, but all the residents of Llys-Y-Tywysog thoroughly enjoy Carl coming in monthly to have a dance, sing songs and exercise at the same time!
Everyone takes part and has the time of their lives! Pat wanted Carl to stay for longer and carry on as she was having so much fun getting up on her feet and dancing.
Local Community Show
We were invited by our local Primary School for a fun event in our local club in Grovesend. Robbie-Lee was singing live for us. Residents enjoyed singing and dancing with the school children and staff.
Thank you to Pengelli Primary School for organising this event. Our residents really enjoyed it and the smiles on their faces were priceless.
Trips Out!
At our home we believe that staying active and connected with the local community is an important part of wellbeing. That’s why we regularly organise trips out for our residents using our own minibus, giving everyone the opportunity to enjoy new experiences and revisit favourite places.
Each week, residents have the chance to take part in a variety of outings, whether it’s a relaxing drive through the local area or a visit to somewhere special. Recently, residents enjoyed a fascinating trip to the Royal Mint, where they learned more about how coins are made and explored the visitor centre. Shopping trips are always popular too, giving residents the chance to browse the shops, pick up a few treats and enjoy a coffee while out and about.
Another favourite outing was a visit to a local pub, where residents enjoyed a traditional fish and chips lunch together. It was a wonderful opportunity to socialise, share stories and enjoy a change of scenery.
These regular outings help residents stay engaged with the community, create new memories and continue enjoying the activities they love.
Visit from Santa Claus
We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor to our home when Santa Claus came to spend time with our residents, spreading festive cheer and plenty of smiles. Santa didn’t come alone – he was joined by a young boy dressed as a cheerful little elf who helped make the visit even more magical.
Together they visited every resident, taking the time to sit, chat, and share a laugh. Santa’s warm personality quickly filled the rooms with joy and there were lots of smiles as stories were shared. One of the funniest moments came when residents couldn’t resist joking with Santa about his big belly, which he took in great spirit, laughing along and saying it was all thanks to too many mince pies.
The visit created a wonderful atmosphere of happiness and connection, reminding everyone of the magic of Christmas. It was a truly heart-warming day that our residents will remember fondly.

Julie celebrating 20 years of service!
We are delighted to honour Julie Yeo for 20 years of exceptional service at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home, part of the Barchester Healthcare family.
Over two decades, Julie has become an integral and cherished part of our community, embodying the compassion, professionalism, and commitment that define our home. A massive congratulations to Julie!
Baking Club
Today, residents enjoyed making Cornish pasties for their supper. Cooking talents were shown off by the residents.
Dilwyn said he really enjoys preparing the food from the start as it makes the meal taste better knowing he prepared it.
Matt's 90th Birthday
Matt’s family and wife Barbara helped organise a big surprise 90th birthday party for Matt! We had Elvis rocking the building with all of his favourite songs. Residents were dancing and so were family members. The buffet was delicious and enjoyed by all. Matt enjoyed the company and said “you didn’t have to do all of this for me”. Matt’s family thoroughly enjoyed dancing with the residents too! Matt and Barbara danced to their favourite song.
Thank you to everyone involved for making this special day happen!
