Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Couple Celebrate 72nd Wedding Anniversary

Residents at Llys Y Tywysog, Barbara and Campbell, have celebrated their 72nd Wedding Anniversary. Campbell asked staff to help surprise his wife, as he wanted to take her to their old stomping ground, the King Arthur Hotel in Gower. Campbell invited his family to join the meal and once Barbara was looking and feeling glamorous, staff drove the couple in our minibus to the Gower for her surprise trip. What a fabulous day it was!

The happy couple got married 72 years ago at the Holy Trinity Church Gorseinon, followed by a reception in Gorseinon Institute and later that day left Swansea on the white funnel sleet boat across the water to Ilfracombe for their honeymoon in Devon.

War Time Tea Party

What a fabulous morning we’ve all had at our vintage tea room. Beautiful buffet from our hospitality team, Andy and Julie, with homemade quiches, sandwiches, and sausage rolls.

We welcomed back Ellie Rose who performed an array of old and new songs singing and dancing the day away together, absolutely amazing!

Llys Rocks!

Art therapy on a sunny afternoon means pebble painting! Residents wanted to create their own pebble art, which we will varnish and take on our walks and days out to hide in the local area! If you see them around take a photo and hide them again for someone else to find. Please let us know and give us a tag or share on Facebook

Baking for Britain

Recently we have been doing lots of cooking and baking! Residents have been making their own pizzas, sausages rolls, pasties and tartlets for their evening dinner.

Cheers, Lechyd Da, to Alan’s Wish

Alan, the whiskey lover, made a wish on our wishing washing line to go to Penderyn Distillery, the home of Welsh Whisky who produce award-winning single malt whiskies from 3 distilleries. Today we made Alan’s wish come true, by taking him and all the resident gentlemen to the recently opened Swansea Copperworks for a distillery tour and a whisky tasting.

Something Different

Animal therapy with a little difference! Instead of a group of objectively adorable and fluffy animals coming to visit residents, this week we had a more unusual visit from our scaly and slimy friends in the animal kingdom. Carrie from Zoology brought Ozzie the bearded dragon, Gail the snail and coral the corn snake, to entertain and inform residents. Most residents had never seen or touched such animals before, isn’t it amazing to still experience something for the first time in your later years!
