Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Paula Courtney

Activities Coordinator

Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog.  I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger.  My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly.  I am delighted to be back working with the team.

I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites!  My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events.  Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University.  As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.

Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus!

Or in English, Happy St. David’s Day! At Llys we started the day with a traditional welsh breakfast, complete with cockles and laverbread! The welsh are famous for music, so we had a day full of it! The morning we had musical entertainment from saxophonist Mick Luck, followed by welsh themed lunch menu and then an afternoon of more music with Goldies Cymru that led a welsh language sing-a-long session! Lechyd Da!

Mair celebrated her birthday at Llys-Y-Tywysog, the hospitality team made a beautiful cake which was enjoyed by all the residents for afternoon tea. What made the day all the more special was Mair enjoying lunch with her cousin Rita who is also a Llys-Y-Tywysog resident. These two ladies get on so well, we loved this photo.

Miss Swansea Visits Llys-Y-Tywysog

It was a day of special visitors at Llys-Y-Tywysog. We welcomed those considering care to the open day to show them around our beautiful home and talk to the team and residents. Audrey from our care team bought in Cassie to meet the residents. Cassie is 8 weeks old and absolutely gorgeous. She obviously finds our beds very comfortable nodding off!

Then in the afternoon we had the pleasure of a visit from UK National Miss Swansea winner, Lucy Porter.  Lucy talked to residents about her experience entering the competition and they were so interested and all wanted to wear the sash! Thank you so much Lucy for taking the time to visit Llys-Y-Tywysog.

Visit to WWT Llaneli Wetlands Centre

Llys-Y-Tywysog residents enjoyed a great visit to WWT Llanelli Wetlands Centre. It was a beautiful winter's day, the sky was clear and although cold we wrapped up warm and so enjoyed walking around. The flamingos were so interesting to watch and so many of the birds were so tame. Paula and Sarah, the activities team are planning weekly trips and the Wetlands Centre was top of the list.  The visit was finished off with a hot drink in the cafe.
