Activities at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Paula Courtney
Hello I am Paula the Activities Coordinator, I have recently returned to Llys-Y-Tywysog. I worked at the home for over 5 years when my children were younger. My close connection with Llys remained as my father in law was former resident, so I was still visiting regularly. I am delighted to be back working with the team.
I am creative and hope to bring new ideas for activities and events as well as still running firm favourites! My passion is about enhancing the lives of the residents from individual time through to big celebratory events. Sarah will continue to work as part of the activities team, working alongside me part time whilst studying for her degree at Swansea University. As a team we are committed to Barchester's Life Enrichment programme ensuring we work with mind, body and soul.
Read our brochure 'Life-enriching activities' for more information about life in our care homes.

Life at Llys-Y-Tywysog Care Home
Jen’s Wish Comes True
Jennifer made her wish on our wishing washing line, she wanted to return to her old childhood stomping ground of Saundersfoot for fish and chips.
Today we made that dream come true.
Jennifer and her four friends, wrapped up in their coats and scarves, got in our homes minibus and off we went on our journey to Saundersfoot. Even the drive was enjoyable, Edith mentioning how gorgeous and green the scenery was with the speckled golden leaves of Autumn. Once we arrived, the ladies enjoyed standing on the promenade and breathing in the fresh sea air, not for long however as the smell of fish and chips called like a siren. The ladies had a lovely time in the Marina Fish and Chips restaurant, were the age-old debate popped its head, are you a curry sauce and chips person or a gravy and chips person? After everyone saying neither, much to the shock of our activities coordinators, the ladies tried a condiment selection, of curry sauce, gravy and aioli with their chips, for the first time ever, and all enjoyed it!
After lunch, Jen went for a trip around Saundersfoots shops and got herself some nice bits for her room and gifts for her friends. To finish off such a lovely trip, on the way home we went to Tenby for some ice creams!
What a fabulous day.
Lest We Forget
Remembrance Sunday at Llys-Y-Tywysog we paid our respects to our fallen hero’s with a two minute silence; joined with loved ones, a time for reflection and remembrance.
Our remembrance was led by Robbie Lee, dressed in vintage wartime attire, he followed the silence with a moving yet fabulous remembrance day performance.
Following the show, there was a lovely a surprise waiting for residents outside. We welcomed Bodie & Blue, two Irish draught ex police horses, to the home and residents did not mind coming out in the drizzle to say hello to them, what gentle giants! Nearly as many horses died in WW1 as soldiers, we will remember them too.
Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun!
What a spooktacular day we’ve all had at Llys-Y-Tywysog! Residents and staff laughed together whilst having their faces painted, getting dressed up with hats and headbands of all kinds of spooky characters. After morning tea, we had entertainment from the amazing Llanelli local, Chris Caine, singing Halloween delights like I Put A Spell on You and Monster Mash. These tunes of course got all our residents dancing, especially Pat, our dancing queen!
After the concert, our hospitality team had prepared an amazing lunch menu complete with Pumpkin Soup, Devilled eggs and Bloody Cheesecake and Mud Pie. Afternoon tea treats included eyeball cupcakes and jelly snakes loaf, washed down with Pumpkin spiced lattes.
The afternoon was filled with fun and games with families and loved ones, and in the evening there was a viewing of Hocus Pocus in the cinema room. We already cannot wait for next year!
Model Pumpkin Patch
Although sad to say goodbye to Summer, it's nice to say hello to Autumn!
This afternoon we made a model Pumpkin Patch for display in reception residents did an excellent job, look how fantastic the models are!
Autumn Crepe Station
Pushing on with the Autumn themes, recently, instead of afternoon tea and cake, we opened a Crepe station in the dining room with the star toppings being stewed apples with cinnamon and toffee sauce. Absolutely delicious!
Residents loved the taste, sharing a plate together and are always excited to try something new. Edith said "It’s remarkable to try something for the first time when you're 99 years old! "
Animal Rescue Centre Trip
Recently we had the pleasure of meeting the wonderful volunteers at Llys Nini Rspca Animal Rescue Centre. We had a guided tour by the amazing and lovely Nikki, who explained all of the work and fundraising they do for the needy animals in our area. Residents found it very interesting to hear about their roles, and of course enjoyed even more getting to hold, play and fuss the gorgeous animals they have at their centre. Kitten, dogs, rabbits, ferrets; are just some of the animals we got to see. After a fabulous tour we rested up in the new cafe with delicious hot chocolate, lattes and homemade cakes and of course a very special visit from, Minnie, the begone frise, she joined us for coffee before going for her walk with volunteers.
