Activities at Lydfords Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Artistic Creation And Design

We have had a delightful afternoon getting crafty and decorating hearts!

Some got a splash of paint, while others bloomed with beautiful silk flowers.

Everyone really enjoyed the afternoon and seeing each others end results.

A poetic morning at Lydfords

We were delighted to welcome a special guest today. Lynne Worrell from Wealden Funeral Services came in and spent the morning reading heartfelt verses with our residents. From classic gems to contemporary pieces.

Lynne is very passionate about giving her time back and has a close connection with poetry readings to make others feel good.

She even had competition from Kath who also loves to read poems to everyone on occasion.

Daffodils For The Local Community

We are back again with our acts of kindness.
Last year the residents put together bunches of daffodils for the local community. The response was so touching they wanted to do it again.

We have started in the village of Ringmer.

General Manager, Rikki-Gene Bury and Home Services Advisor Sam Harding wrapped up warm and visited the village.
Rikki and Sam handed out 60 bunches of flowers to people in the village on behalf of the residents and visited local businesses including Café Ringmer where the very kind owner did his own act of kindness and made them hot chocolate to keep warm on their travels.

The response once again was overwhelming and we will be doing it again soon.

Residents Get Sewing With The Quilters Guild

We have started a new and exciting sewing club with Rachel Dee, East Sussex Rep for the Quilters Guild.

Rachel came and ran the first sewing club at. Rachel and the residents at Lydfords have started making a quilt to be displayed in the home and are also making shopping bags to give to people in the local community.
Rachel brought along some of her finished pieces to show everyone. The ladies also got to try a traditional 1940’s children’s sewing machine.

General Manager Rikki said: “We are all very excited about the new sewing club. So many of the ladies were seamstresses or made their own clothes. It was lovely for them to be able to use a sewing machine again and they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. We really go out of our way to ensure our residents still get to continue doing the things that are important to them.”

A Very Special Reunion For Peter

The Lewes Royal Artillery Association held their monthly meeting at Lydfords care home in East Hoathly and were reunited with their President, Peter.

Peter lives at Lydfords and is beloved by staff and residents alike. Staff at the home were delighted to be a part of making his dream come true, as they knew how much it meant to him, and they all wanted to be there to see the smile on Peter’s face when he was reunited with his members.

Staff at Lydfords contacted the Lewes Royal Artillery Association and invited them in to hold their monthly meeting. The hospitality team provided refreshments and a buffet for the gentleman to enjoy throughout the evening.

Peter was ready to welcome them all as they arrived. The meeting was held in the dining room with Peter sat at the top table. During the evening Peter was presented with a wooden carving of their crest.

Peter is the oldest member of the association and has been very actively involved for years. It was a very special evening as it was the first one Peter has been able to attend for over two years. It meant so much to all of them to be reunited again. It was such a success they are now holding their quarterly meetings at Lydfords so Peter can keep attending.

In response to this wonderful surprise, Peter, said: “I have had the best evening seeing everyone again. I have not stopped smiling and laughing. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream – and I didn’t even ask.”

Rikki, General Manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing.  We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Lydfords and you can continue doing the things you love. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true.  It was wonderful to see how happy Peter was – and the staff loved being a part of this as well.”
