Activities at Lydfords Care Home
We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.
Carole Hierons
Hello, my name is Carole and I am the Activities Lead here at Lydfords.
I have worked in this role for many years and I would not to do anything else.
My job is to plan and oversee the amazing life enrichment activities and trips for all of our residents. It is such a rewarding role and I love planning and doing crafts with everyone.

Life at Lydfords Care Home
Live animal nativity and Santa's workshop
South Brockwells Farm came to our and brought the animals with them. They set up a nativity scene with their sheep and Shetland pony who were dressed up. There were three wise sheep, Mary and Joseph and the pony taking on the part of the angel Gabriel. Our residents were pleasantly surprised to see the animals roaming around the garden. They enjoyed being able to get close to them and watch the children having so much fun.
There were also plenty of activities for everyone to partake in including Christmas card making, reindeer dust making and the children were able to write their cards to Father Christmas in the pavilion next to the animals. Mulled wine was available as well as homemade treats. After all the excitement everyone congregated in the coffee lounge where they settled down with milk and homemade cookies whilst June read them The Night Before Christmas.
Remembrance artwork
Lorraine from Creative Mojo Mid Sussex came in and spent time creating a beautiful piece of artwork to display for Remembrance Sunday with some of the homes budding artists. Lorraine showed different styles and techniques that could be applied and together they produced this lovely picture.
Barchester 30th Anniversary Celebrations
Everyone came along and enjoyed an afternoon of music and celebrations for Barchester's 30th anniversary. Enrico the homes chef made a beautiful cake to mark the occasion and we had live entertainment from Jon McDveitt.
Trip to Middleton Common Farm
Residents enjoyed a trip to Middleton Common Farm where they got to walk around and look at all the different species of butterflies in a natural environment. The butterflies landed on everyone and we able to be admired up close. It is such a beautiful and tranquil place to visit, and everyone really enjoyed it.
Bonfire Procession
Staff and residents at Lydfords Care Home watched the procession at the East Hoathly Bonfire Night.
We all wrapped up warm and got settled on the roadside in the village to watch a fantastic procession that went through the high street and enjoyed hot chocolates to keep warm.
Classic Car Show
Here at Lydfords Care Home, our residents were treated to a classic car show! We loved seeing all of the old cars and especially enjoyed having the chance to sit in some of them. The cars brought back lots of lovely memories for our residents too.
