Activities at Lydfords Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Carole Hierons

Activities Lead and Speak Up Champion

Hello, my name is Carole and I am the Activities Lead here at Lydfords.

I have worked in this role for many years and I would not to do anything else.

My job is to plan and oversee the amazing life enrichment activities and trips for all of our residents. It is such a rewarding role and I love planning and doing crafts with everyone.

Life at Lydfords Care Home

Ridgewood Outreach Group

Yesterday Home Service Advisor Laura Tee visited the Ridgewood Outreach Group.

Lydfords Chef Harry made delicious home made brandy, orange and red velvet truffles for all at the group to take home.

Thank you to Ridgewood Village Hall Outreach Group for having us along!

Ducking hatching

Today we received our very exciting package from JK Hatchings & are now home to 6 duck eggs.

We are so excited to share this wonderful hatching experience with our residents, who are very much looking forward to seeing them hatch!

Providing 'Animal Therapy' within the elderly population holds many benefits including alleviating loneliness and depression & reducing blood pressure and heart rate.

Keep an eye on our page for duckling updates!

Baking

Residents at Lydfords continue to pursue their passions as well as find new ones.

This week some residents have been baking delicious home-made biscuits.

Baking can be a useful outlet for creativity and has the benefit of social interaction whilst making and of course sharing the delicious results!

Knitting Club

Residents have started up a knitting club, as suggested by one of our lovely ladies, knitting is great for improving hand-eye coordination, we love to come together for a chat and cup of tea whilst putting our fingers to great use, knitting patterns.

Here one of our residents shares her knowledge with our Activity Coordinator Kirsty.
