Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Tina Holmes
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Burnby Hall Gardens
This morning we had a lovely drive out in our mini bus and visited Burnby Hall Gardens at Pocklington.
We went prepared for the hot weather with sun cream and sunhats, we had a lovely time walking around admiring the beautifully kept gardens with all the pretty flowers, and we stopped to admire the birds in the Avery.
The ladies enjoyed stopping off around the lake to feed the carp fish (we did get splashed a number of times) like Mary said it cooled us down, and Rose was delighted to see all the Lily pads out in the lake.
We finished off a wonderful morning treating ourselves to lunch in the lilypad café.
Musical Moments
Our residents from around the home gathered together to join Maggie for our musical moments session, once again another fabulous afternoon with lots of singing and dancing using fun sensory props whilst shaking their tail feathers with a lot of shimmying going on.
Everyone enjoyed singing along as Maggie played musical instruments, and we had a Dawn French quiz with the theme music from vicar of Dibley.
We had a wonderful afternoon and lovely to see so much laughter and smiles fill the room.
Cheese & wine evening!
We hosted our cheese & wine evening where everyone gathered together taking the opportunity to socialise and make new friends.
Everyone got to try a selection of tasty cheeses accompanied with a selection of wines to suit each individual’s preferences, alcohol free sparkling beverages were on offer for those that prefer.
The wensleydale with cranberries and creamy brie were the most popular choice of the evening, whilst a couple of our ladies like a blue cheese.
The evening was a great success with lots of laughter, and it was lovely to hear the cheerful chatter.
Why not come along and join us for our next one.
Animal therapy
Residents and team members were delighted when we welcomed Joe, from joesowls encounters and mobile zoo in to the home with his two Alpacas Mr Bubbles and Colin.
Mr Bubbles and Colin went around the home where our residents and team members were only too happy to make a fuss of them and chatting with Joe to learn all about them, they were ever so friendly, it was lovely to see the delight they brought to our residents (and staff).
A wonderful day at the Fair
We had such a wonderful day at our summer fair which was held in our garden with the sun shining, residents gathered together from around the home joined by their families and friends in the community, where everyone enjoyed entertainment from the wonderful Maggie Baker and fun games provided.
It was great to see all the children playing having fun with the garden games provided, with our residents and the children making sure they got their family and staff members in the stocks!
Pamper time
Our ladies joined Tina in the lounge for the evening for a little pamper and relaxation time where they experienced a relaxing hand soak, using sensory beads with a soothing hand massage to follow.
The ladies chatted together with a glass of wine as they decided from a selection of nail polishes, taking in the scents of the essential oils diffuser and light, as relaxing music played softly in the background. The ladies commented saying what a relaxed feel to the evening and smelt like been at a spa.
What a wonderful evening!
