Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Staff and residents at Barchester’s Meadowbeck care home, in York, celebrated Easter with a whole host of themed activities including crafts decorating Easter eggs, Easter bonnets, Easter egg hunt and a special Easter themed bingo.

Residents at Meadowbeck enjoyed an eggs-tensive range of Easter activities, from decorating their Easter Bonnets and having an Easter Bonnet parade, egg painting, to joining in the fun on the Easter egg hunt, we had a visit from our little Easter bunny, who helped to hand out all the chocolate bunnies to our residents. Residents also tucked in to a delicious Easter meal of roast lamb followed by Easter cake prepared by the home’s head chef Tim, finished the afternoon with Easter word puzzles with delicious hot cross buns.

What a fun morning we all had!

Our residents had an amazing time travelling in our minibus to the local garden centre, where they explored a whole host of shops, browsing around the many stalls at the craft fair and Violet was lucky enough to win a prize on the tombola stall.  

They were able to enjoy some well-deserved retail therapy where they purchased little trinkets and plants.

We finished off the morning stopping off in their coffee shop, where the delicious cakes and pot of tea went down a treat.

We had a fantastic time!

Celebrations were in full swing as Eileen celebrated her 90th birthday in style. The room was decorated with balloons and banners that her daughter, Angela, had specially made with photographs of memories shared.

Eileen was joined by her family and friends, team members, and other residents that she has become good friends with in the home. There was prosecco a plenty, with a delicious birthday cake made for the special occasion, and party food for all the guests to enjoy.

We were entertained by Lucys pop choir which Eileen’s daughter, along with another residents daughter, are members of. They sang us a selection of songs, along with Happy Birthday, to the birthday girl.

Eileen said she had a lovely day with her family and friends around her, and she thought the choir was wonderful.

Our home was beautifully decorated with fresh flowers and bunting in recognition of Mother’s Day and all the wonderful mothers in our home.

In the morning we arranged flowers for our female residents around the home, in the afternoon our lovely ladies enjoyed an afternoon tea party, with a selection of delicious homemade yummy treats, accompanied with lots of tea, coffee and a glass or two of pink fizz, it was lovely to see them joined by their loved ones for this special day.

Our ladies were entertained by Les, who played a selection of well-known sing along classics, which everyone enjoyed singing along to.

There were smiles all around the home, with lots of families visiting showering their Mum’s with flowers and gifts, our ladies were made to feel special.

Across our services, our residents were treated to a special virtual sensory storytelling session.  Together with Art Historian Jon Sleigh and the Historic Royal Palaces community team, we explored several royal palaces through the theme of food, dining and celebration!

We enjoyed a fantastic taste-a-long experience from the comfort of our home, from Tudor treats to Stuart sweets. A lovely time was had by all.

Across our services we had a lovely time joining Mark Piesing for an exciting virtual event to discuss his book ‘N-4 Down: The Hunt for The Arctic Airship Italia’.

Our residents were thrilled to find out more about the book and the fascinating story of the world-famous exploring airship Italia, returning from the North Pole on May 24, 1928. The airship was struck by a terrible storm and crashed somewhere over the Arctic ice, triggering the largest polar rescue mission in history.

The virtual book club experience was truly enjoyed by all.
