Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Tina Holmes
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home
Coffee Morning
This morning it was our community coffee morning which takes place every Tuesday morning from 10.30 am – 12 Noon.
These mornings are always popular where our residents like to come along and enjoy a friendly catch up as they pay Sue a visit in our hair salon, and enjoy a piece of cake or two with numerous cups of tea or coffee, the carrot cake and coffee and walnut went down a real treat.
We had a great morning with lots of friendly chatter and hearty laughter.
Why not join us next time for a friendly chat and great company, everyone is welcome.
British flower week
Happy British Flowers Week. We have been celebrating with lots of colourful flowers.
We have been getting creative and mastering our flower arranging skills, creating bright bouquets that we have placed around our lovely home, with a couple of our ladies who attended flower arranging classes in the past at hand to give us tips.
Our residents and visitors have all commented how lovely they all are.
We have been learning all about British flowers, we were surprised at how many different types there were.
Other residents have helped to make our raised beds bright and colourful and taking care of them.
A fabulous time was had with the ladies doing a blooming marvellous job.
Shopping for plants
This afternoon this gent went shopping for plants for the garden, he was a huge help sharing his knowledge with Tina as he went around naming all the plants and flowers, commenting on the price if they were reasonably priced or not, after going around the plants he helped Gary in the DIY section.
He picked out a selection of lavender, geraniums and a beautiful purple Dahlia for us to bring home saying how the English lavender smelt wonderful and how the bees would like it.
Once we finished our tea and cake when we got home, we spent the rest of the afternoon busy in the garden planting and watering as we listened to the birds, we even spotted squirrels playing around up in the tree.
We had a wonderful afternoon.
A trip out to Deans garden centre
These two ladies enjoyed a drive out to Dean’s garden centre in our mini bus, taking in a little countryside views along the way.
We walked around admiring all the flowers and plants, browsed the gift shops with so much to choose from, Phyllis was taken with the selection of hand crafted ducks they had for sale, (but a little pricey she thought) .
Once we had finished walking around the flowers we stopped off in the coffee shop where we chose from a selection of speciality coffees and homemade delicious cakes.
Marion went for the delicious scone filled with cream and strawberries with a pot of tea to wash it down with, and Phyllis said she fancied a toasted teacake accompanied with a latte.
We had a wonderful time, a perfect way to spend a Sunday morning.
Home present cheque to local charity
Meadowbeck care home in York recently presented Musical Connections with a cheque for nine hundred and seventy five pounds to help with costs of group music sessions for older people. The charity empowers people to lead happier healthier lives through participating in music, to provide opportunities for vulnerable and socially isolated people through music and friendship.
Historic Hendon
Across our services we had a lovely time joining Rhiannon Watkinson from the RAF Museum London for an interactive talk exploring the exciting and innovative aviation history of Hendon.
Our residents were able to learn about the first flights from the fields at Hendon, the creation of the London Aerodrome and Battle of Britain pilots who flew from RAF Hendon.
The talk also included photographic and film material from the Museum’s archive. Residents across our homes had a fantastic time and we truly enjoyed the virtual experience.
