Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home
Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.
Tina Holmes
Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.
I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.
I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Play Time
This morning we put on our sun hats and went along to Osbaldwick and murton churches baby and toddler group in the village, we were welcomed with teas and coffees, everyone was so friendly and inviting.
The group have kindly invited us to pop along and join in the fun, our ladies were delighted watching all the children play, it was wonderful to see the joy on their faces as they chatted to all the parents and interacted with the little ones, listening to the sound of children playing.
The church hall was filled with so many toys and puzzles, and a young man went around with his ice-cream cart, after snack time we all gathered around singing nursery rhymes and songs with musical instruments.
One of our ladies had a lovely surprise when she learnt her own great granddaughter attends the same group so cuddles were shared.
We had a wonderful morning, Thank you for having us and making us welcome, looking forward to next time.
Story telling with Jon Sleigh
Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.
Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.
Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes. It was a truly lovely time for all.
Doughnuts all round!
This week as we celebrated National Doughnut Week it gave everyone a good excuse to sample the delicious sweet treats.
Both our residents and team members were exited to hear about the doughnut week, as Tina went around the home offering them around there was a few eyes light up.
Everyone was spoilt for choice with the selection on offer including Chocolate and vanilla sprinkle, glazed, sugar coated or the good old jam filled.
Who doesn’t love a doughnut, they went down a real treat with everyone finding it difficult not lick their lips as they enjoyed.
Village walk
Yesterday morning we made the most of the lovely weather with a little sunshine and had a steady stroll into the village.
We had a visit to the pond to see the ducks and swans, we sat and shared memories together of days when they could take their children and grandchildren to feed the ducks.
Rose commented how wonderful and peaceful it was, taking in the scenery and how lovely it was to go out, her first visit to the pond.
We had a lovely morning admiring the flowers in the gardens and chatting to many friendly locals walking their dogs along the way.
