Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Summer Fair – fun and games in the sun!

Yesterday we had a fabulous day at our summer fair as residents, families and friends in the local community gathered together.

Everyone had lots of fun in the sun as the grown-ups visited the Tiki Bar where the fruit punch and pimms went down a treat, the children had more fun especially when they got to soak the staff and family members in the stocks, and enjoyed other garden games including limbo, connect four and many more.

Visitors browsed various stalls from homemade scents and candles, crafted cards and a delicious cake stall, with lucky winners on the raffle and tombola.

We had great entertainment from the wonderful Nikki Humberstone.

Thank you to all stall holders and visitors for your donations and support helping to make the day a great success, we couldn’t have done it without you.

Pet Therapy with our handsome Ted!

Ted is a therapy dog for “Therapy Dogs Nationwide” he is a popular visitor with our residents as he happily walks around the home going from room to room waiting patiently until he is invited inside only too happy for a fuss.

Everyone including residents, visitors and staff were delighted to see him back after a short break, with new residents and their families pleased to meet him, and Ted making more new friends.

Ted brings so much joy and comfort to our residents, he is a great companion to our residents and they love to share their stories with Hilary too.

Cheesecake Day!

In anticipation of International Cheesecake Day tomorrow we spent the afternoon creating different recipes and flavours of cheesecake.

Our first one was the Neapolitan with a layer of chocolate, vanilla and strawberry then decorated with chocolate-dipped strawberries, next came the tempting biscoff with its rich caramel flavour and creamy texture nicely topped off with biscoff biscuits.

Everyone that took part had great fun whist sharing memories of baking with their grandchildren, the afternoon was a great success.

The, could not resist licking the spoon afterwards, saying how this was the best part of baking day.

Looking forward to the taste test tomorrow, were sure they’ll taste just as yummy as they look.

Happy Birthday Barrie!

Celebrations were in full swing as Barrie celebrated his 91st Birthday, his Nephew and friends in the home joined him to celebrate his special day with him.

His day was made extra special when Elvis entered the building, Glenn Booth – Church Warden of Osbaldwick and Murton Churches entertained us singing well-known Elvis hits.

Glen went around the audience serenading all the ladies with everyone clapping and singing along.

Barrie as always been a huge Elvis Presley fan, and he thanked everyone at the end for joining him saying what a wonderful time he had, a day he will remember.

We finished off with everyone singing “Happy Birthday” as Barrie blew out his candles.

World Chocolate Day!

It was all things sweet for World Chocolate Day with a range of chocolatey activities including a fun themed quiz.

Residents, families and friends joined Tina and Layni, who is with us for her work experience from All Saints sixth form.

We were all exited to sample a selection of yummy chocolate delights as they gathered around the chocolate fountain to dip their marshmallows and mouth-watering fruits, with staff also not able to resist.

A messy but fun afternoon had by all.
