Activities at Meadowbeck Care Home

Activities are the cornerstone of a wholesome home experience and our Activities Coordinators are always putting their creative minds to the test by organising new and exciting social events for residents to partake in. Of course, we take into account the likes and dislikes of those we support, so if someone doesn’t feel like trying something new, there will always be something on offer to reflect their personal interests. For the people who may just prefer some peace and quiet instead, we also offer one-to-one time that can be enjoyed with a nice cup of coffee or just a simple chat – whatever they desire.

Tina Holmes

Lead Activities Co-ordinator

Hi, I’m Tina, and I am the Activities Coordinator here at Meadowbeck.

I began working at the home as a Care Assistant in 1999. In 2014, I changed my role to Social Support Worker, which I enjoyed, as it involved supporting residents at Meadowbeck in their daily lifestyles.

I then became the Activities Coordinator in May 2017. I love working with our residents and getting to know them and their families. In addition to supporting them maintain an active lifestyle I always ensure to personally get to know each resident when they move in with us to support them in the continuation of any hobbies or interests the might have.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at Meadowbeck Care Home

Home put on their blue suede shoes!

Meadowbeck was transformed into Graceland to mark what would have been Elvis Presley’s 90th birthday on 8 January, the staff and residents enjoyed a fantastic day of music, fun and dancing.

General Manager, Annaliza Kemp, said: “Lots of our residents are big Elvis fans and love his music.  We’ve had a fantastic day listening to all his hits, finding out about his early life and what influenced him and watching old Elvis movies, he was such an incredible talent.  This afternoon we had live entertainment when we welcomed back Glen Booth, who performed a selection of Elvis’s well-known hits, it is amazing how many songs he recorded.  We all surprised ourselves by how many we remembered!”

Christmas Day at Meadowbeck

Looking back on moments we would like to share with you from Christmas Day.

Residents were delighted to have another visit from Santa handing out more presents, precious time with family visiting, opening presents.

We had a delicious traditional Christmas Day lunch with all the trimmings cooked by our chefs, with Christmas pudding and chocolate yule log to follow and wine flowing. It was lovely to see so many families and friends having lunch with us.

Our wonderful residents appreciated quiet time reminiscing over sweet treats, mince pies and mulled wine after watching the King's speech in the afternoon.

A lovely day enjoyed by all with the home feeling like it was one big extended family.

Ho Ho Ho, Merry Christmas!

On Christmas Eve here at Meadowbeck, we welcomed everyone to our Santa’s Grotto, where Santa himself was waiting with a sack full of presents to greet everyone.

It was lovely to see so many residents, staff, families and friends come along to visit Santa for photographs and receive presents, (unless you were on his naughty list of course).

Santa worked ever so hard visiting each resident around the home handing out presents for those who wished a visit.

The look of joy on our resident's and children’s faces was so magical. A big thank you to all who managed to come along and make the day memorable.

Wishing a Merry Christmas to all our families and friends from everyone here at Meadowbeck Care Home.

Out with the old, in with the new!

Staff and residents at Meadowbeck celebrated bringing in the New Year in style when Big Ben struck midnight this New Year’s Eve.

Meadowbeck’s New Year’s Eve party was in full swing with live entertainment with the wonderful Nikki, with everyone singing and dancing along waving fun props to timeless party songs, linking arms to the big finale “Auld Lang Syne”.  Residents enjoyed a glass of bubbly, cocktails and a festive feast prepared by our activities team and head chef.

A festive afternoon with our community friends

As part of our Intergenerational programme, our residents were thrilled to welcome back Debbie Feehan, and Musical Connections, who brought along some of the children from our local school, St Aelred's Catholic Primary School & Nursery.

The afternoon was full of interactive fun playing Christmas themed games and instruments, with snowballs filling the air as they sung Let it snow.
The children also performed a selection of Christmas songs and carols for our residents, filling the room with joy, laughter and beautiful harmonies.
Thank you for a wonderful afternoon, looking forward to welcoming you back in the New Year.
