Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Teddies in a Basket
We are delighted to have this basket of cuties to sell in aid of our resident’s fund. One of our Milford residents who loves knitting has made us a whole basketful of these colourful characters to sell, and we anticipate that demand will be high in the run up to Christmas as the previous batch sold out very quickly!
Our fund allows us to put on special events, organise additional outings and purchase additional games or equipment that the residents themselves decide that they would like over and above our daily programme.
Bug House
Residents at Milford House are working with our gardener to create a wildlife area within our lovely grounds. We recently had to have some trees felled as they were becoming unsafe and this has given us an area that we felt would be ideal for the creation of a wildlife haven.
In particular, we have built a ‘bug house’ – using recycled materials and plant matter - which will help attract and support pollinators and other species which are key to bio-diversity. Over the coming months residents are also looking forward to installing hedge-hog houses, a bird bath, a range of different bird houses to attract different bird species and plants such as buddelia which will attract butterflies and other insects.
We can’t wait to see what visitors we get and to learn all about them.
Anchors Aweigh
Residents from Milford House enjoyed a wonderful afternoon on Southampton Water courtesy of the wonderful Solent Dolphin and her crew. On a slightly breezy day they cast off from Hythe marina and had a floating tour of the docks & had a short sail up the mouth of the Hamble, before returning to Hythe.
This was one of our annual outings that we all look forward to and no doubt there will be a waiting list for next year’s sailings.
Milford House Supports Salisbury Hospice
On a lovely sunny day Milford House had a stand at the Wessex Country Fair in support of the Salisbury Hospice’s main fundraising event. Our stand featured a tombola and plants for sale from our own garden, and was a sell out with everything gone from the stand by 2pm.
We were delighted to hand over all the profits from the stand to a hospice to support the wonderful work that they do and we hope to attend again next year when we will take along twice as many plants and items.
Fun of the Farm
A group of twenty residents accompanied by Milford's staff members spent an afternoon at our local community farm. On a lovely afternoon, when the weather was perfect – warm, but not too hot – the afternoon culminated in a cream tea in the barn. Just five minutes down the road from our home this is a new favourite destination with their outdoor and indoor facilities for tea & coffee, lots of lovely animals and birds to look at as well.
Themed Workshops
Residents and staff of Milford continue to enjoy the regular visits from the children of Imagine This, for their workshops. We are currently in the middle of our summer term and while the weather has not allowed us to hold any of the sessions outside, this has not stopped everyone from having an enormous amount of fun. The themes of each workshop have ranged from ‘In the Garden’ to ‘Once Upon a Time’ and there have been some incredible craft items and paintings produced.
