Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Kylie Colman
Kylie has three years experience as an Activities Co-Ordinator and has loved every moment! Having recently joined the Milford team she is looking forward to getting to know all our residents and to delivering, alongside the rest of the team, an interesting and diverse programme of activities. She loves being outside and in particular organising trips out of the home and activities and events that take place in our gorgeous gardens.

Glen's Pain is Pudsey's Gain
Residents, staff and visitors gathered in anticipation to watch Glen – a key member of our laundry team – have his legs waxed in aid of Children in Need. In scenes too painful to show here, Glen manfully presented his legs so the deed could be done and he could collect his sponsorship. To the delight of all involved, he lived to tell the tale and raised over £250 for Children in Need. Well done, Glen!
Sharing Moments
The new winter/Christmas series of Sharing Moments playgroups have started at Milford, with children and residents getting stuck in with some painting.
This is our fourth series of workshops, which have proved exceptionally popular with everyone, and we all look forward to Tuesday mornings, when we can’t wait to see what the theme of the week is.
This series will finish on December 4th, with a special Christmas edition, which will see the children follow our ‘Elf Trail’ around the home and share a Christmas picnic lunch with the residents.
100 Years of Remembrance
Residents at Milford House have been marking the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War in a number of ways.
In addition to a service on Remembrance Sunday, a reflective afternoon with tea was held. Residents sat underneath some poppies in the dining room, listened to poetry, discussed their memories and reflected on the events of the First World War and subsequent wars thereafter.
It was a moving afternoon, which ended with a cup of tea and a beautifully decorated cake. We started off this particular cycle of remembrance in 1914 as part of a project to highlight the start of the war and held a concert to commemorate the event. The reflective afternoon held to mark the end of the war seemed a fitting way to end the tribute to this particular war.
Spooktacular Stuff!
Milford House embraced Halloween, with everyone encouraged to add a little spooky something to their outfit for the day. Residents particularly enjoyed the varied group pictured here – it’s not often you see Cruella de Ville surrounded by two Halloween felines and a witch. Treats around the home added to the fun, as we watched everyone leave the home on their broomsticks at the end of the day!
October Open Day
Milford House recently welcomed the local community for an open day and the chance to meet the team whilst looking around the home. Visitors were able to see our new garden feature: a lovely cornus tree planted in the inner courtyard in place of a previous tree.
Residents are looking forward to seeing the tree grow and develop into a lovely specimen and are firmly thinking of spring already, when the tree should bloom, together with a host of spring bulbs, which have been planted around the base.
Country & Western Afternoon
Vanessa, with her lovely red cowboy hat, came to Milford to entertain us all with an hour of relaxing country and western music. Singing a range of new and much loved favourites, the hour flew by and, before we knew it, we were waving Vanessa goodbye and anticipating her next visit.
