Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Employee of the Month - June
Milford House General Manager, Phil Chapman, was delighted to present the Employee of the Month award for June to Mary Hamshere (both pictured here). Mary was nominated for her achievements in not only gaining her Level 2 NVQ in Activities Provision from NAPA (National Activities Providers Association), but also for her dedicated approach to the provision of activities within Milford House and always striving to provide activities for those we support and constantly seeking to provide an inclusive and varied service.
Wonderful Work Experience
Here at Milford House, we are regularly asked if local students can visit the home for work experience and are delighted to welcome them into the ‘Milford family’. Most recently, we have been delighted to welcome Olivia who, during the week she has been with us, has worked alongside the activities team as we deliver our regular varied programme of events over the course of the week.
Olivia has really got to know a number of residents and joined in enthusiastically with everything we have been doing. Hopefully we have given Olivia a real insight into how our home operates. We have loved having her and hope that she will pop in and see us from time to time.
Lee Knott Entertains
Residents at Milford enjoyed a great afternoon’s entertainment with Lee Knott, who came and played his trumpet for us and sang some of our favourite songs. Lee is a regular at Milford and we all look forward to his visits as he always makes sure we have a fun time and has us all singing and humming along.
Maintaining Mobility
Whether we are young, old or in between, maintaining our mobility is important and, at Milford House, we have regular active sessions to help us all maintain and improve our movement. Alongside armchair movement, we also welcome ‘Alive’ once a month, who deliver a mixed programme of activities that encourages movement in various forms to keep us all on our toes. Sandie, one of their presenters, (pictured above), is a relatively new visitor to Milford, but the team from ‘Alive’ have been coming to the home for over 9 years and everyone looks forward to their visits.
Coffee in the Garden
Throughout July, Milford House has been welcoming residents, loved ones and the wider community for coffee in the garden (weather permitting) every Wednesday morning at 11:00 a.m. The weather was gorgeous and everyone was out enjoying the sunshine (and shade!). We are so lucky here to have lovely gardens to enjoy and at this time of year they are looking picturesque.
Amanda Delights
We were all thrilled to have Amanda sing for us at our Garden Party. As it turned out it was a perfect sunny afternoon and after lunch everyone sat in the courtyard garden of just inside in the shade to hear Amanda sing a perfect summer medley of songs. As always Amanda looked gorgeous in one of her lovely floral dresses and fitted into the garden perfectly!
We are delighted that Amanda will be with us again in September!
