Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Life at Milford House Care Home
Easter Entertainment
Residents at Milford House had a Good Friday treat when Chico came along to sing for us. A firm favourite here at the home, Chico had some new songs for us and he had us all tapping our feet and singing along. It was a lovely afternoon and we can’t wait for him to come back and visit us again in June.
Puzzling Away
Here at Milford House, we enjoy regular puzzle afternoons. Everyone chooses their own favourites: word searches, spot the difference, a jigsaw puzzle or whatever takes their fancy. You could hear a pin drop as everyone was concentrating, but we soon put a stop to that with a well-earned cup of tea and a slice of cake!
The Secret Spitfires
Milford House was fortunate to host a showing of ‘The Secret Spitfires,’ a film that celebrates the remarkable story of the people of Salisbury who, during World War II, rallied to the war effort by secretly building Spitfires in an effort to outwit the German bombers who had destroyed the production factories in Southampton. With the Director, Ethem Cetintas, and Associate Producer/Researcher, Gary Roberts, present, the film was shown to a packed audience of residents, who were unanimous in their praise.
Beth Entertains
Residents enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon in the conservatory being sung to by Beth, one of our favourite entertainers. Beth sang a variety of favourites that had everyone joining in. It was also a chance for residents to wish Beth well as she will be taking time off to have a baby, so next time we see her she may be singing a duet!
Scrabble Fun
Residents at Milford have been enjoying regular sessions of scrabble with Steve on the big board. Everyone enjoys the experience and it is something to challenge our brains and vocabulary with. Steve was making sure that all of our words were in the dictionary, as well as keeping the score and announcing the winning team.
World Poetry Day
Staff, residents and guests commemorated World Poetry Day with readings of favourite poems and by unveiling our series of ‘Milford Sonnets', which were written by residents in conjunction with local poet/author, Pippa Roberts, and that celebrate the four seasons.
The sonnets have been mounted and framed and are now proudly hanging where residents, staff and visitors alike can appreciate them.
