Activities at Milford House Care Home
The Activities Team at Milford House are dedicated to providing a range of stimulating activities for both groups and individuals, that promote both physical and mental wellbeing based upon resident's interests both past and present. As a member of the National Activity Providers Association (NAPA) the team are always striving to incorporate best practice into the array of activities on offer and to enhance their own skills through qualification with NAPA to NVQ Level 3 in Activities Provision. The team combine weekly activity favourites such as sherry mornings with special events, musical entertainments, slide shows, outings in our own mini-bus as well as interacting with local community groups such as Plain Arts Salisbury to showcase resident art and creativity and others who come into the home to interact with our residents. Milford House also benefits from a strong network of volunteers who support the Activity Team as they deliver their programme and who, along with friends and relatives, are always welcome to come and join in our sessions and outings.
Gale Louw
Gale joined the Milford team in 2019, initially as a carer but has gradually transferred over to the Activities Team where she is now the full time Coordinator. Gale has a passion to create a comprehensive and inclusive programme of vibrant events for residents, family
members and friends to enjoy and, along with the rest of team, ensure that each resident is able to participate in meaningful activities tailored to their likes and dislikes.
Originally from South Africa, when not at work Gale loves nothing more than exploring the UK, catching up with family and friends, being creative across a variety of disciplines and keeping her eyes out for great activities and events she can bring back to the home for
residents to enjoy.

Sunshine at Last!
The sun has finally arrived just in time for the Chelsea Flower Show and, here at Milford, we made the most of it by getting out into the garden. As always, nothing is perfect - it was so warm that we had to make sure that everyone was able to find their own little spot of shade whilst others were going around the gardens. However, this was no hardship, as it gave everyone a chance to enjoy the view, which featured our gorgeous white wisteria and the gentle warm breezes that wafted the wonderful scents of the garden towards us.
Flowery Fun
In celebration of the Chelsea Flower Show, we are having a week of all things flowery here at Milford. Residents collected petals and leaves and then turned them into gorgeous transparencies, which we are going to decorate the home with. Later in the week, we will be looking at all the latest from the Chelsea Flower Show and we have even had a session about the language of flowers – all with the backdrop of some lovely summer sunshine.
Spring Song
We have been delighted to welcome Amanda again to Milford so that she can sing for us. It is always a pleasure to spend the afternoon with her and, as she is one of our regular entertainers, we always look forward to her return visits.
Coffee & Cakes
With the weather brightening up and the days getting warmer (supposedly!), we are getting out and about more in our minibus, and each week we go out for a coffee, cakes and a little retail therapy at a range of local stores and garden centres. We can’t always find exactly what we want in the aisles, but a slice of cake or a Danish and a great cup of coffee with some good ol' chinwaggin' are always a good way to end our outing before returning home.
A Fond Farewell
Everyone at Milford was sorry to say ‘goodbye’ to Activities Coordinator, Polly, who is leaving us to move to Leicester. Residents wanted to wish Polly well for her move and made a wonderful card for her which reflected life at Milford House and her interests, such as nature and the outdoors. Not only was the card beautifully decorated on the front, but on the back, each resident had signed an individual flower so that Polly will remember us all fondly.
Milford Recognises Volunteers
Here at Milford, we celebrated Volunteer Recognition Day in style by hosting afternoon tea and entertainment - provided by the fabulous, Vanessa, who sang country and western for us - during which we presented our volunteers with a gorgeous bouquet each.
We have a wonderful group of volunteers at Milford, not all of whom were able to attend our afternoon, and they add enormously to the range and scope of activities we are able to provide to the people we support.
Everyone hugely appreciates the time and dedication that they give to Milford, so we would like to say a huge ‘thank you’ from all of us.
