Activities at Moreton Hill Care Home
Our home is always full of life, and we can thank our wonderful Activities Coordinators for this. Dedication to creating a unique and interesting activities programme is what sets us apart from other homes. We always take into consideration that some people would prefer to pursue their own interests, which is why our team strive to incorporative activities that cater to a wide range of tastes and hobbies. Our trips out are always fun and exciting as well, and residents are guaranteed to return with stories to tell their loved ones!

Celebrating life at Moreton Hill Care Home
Dining with Elegance and Comfort
At our care home, every mealtime is a fine dining experience designed to delight our residents. We believe that dining should be more than just nourishment — it should be an occasion to savour. Our talented chefs prepare fresh, beautifully presented dishes each day, offering a variety of nutritious and delicious options to suit all tastes and dietary needs.
We take pride in creating a welcoming atmosphere where residents can relax, enjoy good company, and take pleasure in high-quality cuisine. Each meal is served with care, and residents are encouraged to choose from a range of beverages, including a glass of wine or sherry to complement their meal.
Last Friday, everyone especially enjoyed a traditional favourite — golden, crispy fish and chips, served with all the trimmings. Whether it’s a comforting classic or a gourmet special, our dining team ensures every dish is made with passion and served with a smile.
Musical Performance Cruise Ship Style!
We were delighted to welcome Sadie from Afternoon of Glamorous Glitzy Entertainment to our home for a wonderful performance. Sadie, an experienced cruise ship entertainer, brought with her all the sparkle and glamour of the stage. She treated us to a taste of the music she performs at sea, filling the room with lively songs, engaging stories, and a joyful atmosphere that had everyone tapping their feet. Her stunning outfits, full of colour and sequins, added to the sense of excitement and transported us into the world of showbiz. Residents were captivated not only by her beautiful singing but also by her warmth and energy, which made everyone feel part of the show. It was a truly uplifting afternoon, and Sadie left us with smiles, laughter, and a reminder of the magic that music and performance can bring. We look forward to welcoming her again soon.
Therapy Art Sessions
Every Tuesday at our home we host our much-loved weekly art classes, bringing colour, creativity, and connection into our community. Art is more than just making something beautiful – it’s a form of therapy that helps us relax, express ourselves, and find joy in the present moment. Whether it’s painting, drawing, or simply experimenting with new techniques, our sessions are designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone, no matter their experience.
We are very fortunate to have Mel, our wonderful volunteer, who kindly joins us each week to guide and inspire the group. With her encouragement and warmth, participants feel free to try new ideas, explore different materials, and discover the calming benefits of creative expression.
On sunny days we take the art sessions outdoors, enjoying the fresh air and natural light as we create together. These moments make the classes extra special, combining the therapeutic benefits of art with the simple pleasure of being outside.
Our art classes are always filled with laughter, conversation, and a real sense of community. They offer a space to relax, connect, and nurture creativity – proving that art truly is for everyone.
Therapy Dog and Creative Crafts: A Week of Joy at Moreton Hill
Life at Moreton Hill is always full of meaningful moments and engaging activities, and this past week was no exception. We were delighted to welcome a very special visitor—Faith, our much-loved therapy dog. Faith brought smiles all around as she made her way through the home, stopping by residents’ rooms to offer gentle cuddles and kisses. Her calming presence was a comfort to many, and she happily received a few well-deserved ear scratches in return! These pet therapy sessions bring emotional connection, companionship, and genuine joy to our residents, and Faith is always a favourite.
The next day, we tapped into our artistic side during an arts and crafts session, where residents made beautiful tassel keychains. These stylish accessories were a huge hit—practical, pretty, and perfect for helping the ladies find their handbag zips with ease! Our residents took great pride in their creations, and it was lovely to see their confidence and creativity shine.
At Moreton Hill, we’re passionate about offering a wide range of enriching activities that spark joy, encourage interaction, and support independence. Whether it’s cuddling with a furry friend or crafting something unique, there’s always something special happening here.
Musical Variety Show
Last weekend, 30 residents, along with their families and friends, gathered in the cosy May Hill lounge to enjoy a wonderful afternoon of entertainment. The Northeast Producers delighted everyone with their lively Musical Variety Show titled "That’s Life". The show began with an amusing chance meeting between Doris and Frank at the local bus stop, setting the scene for a charming and light-hearted story.
As the performance unfolded, Frank, with the help of some well-loved and nostalgic songs, attempted to win Doris over. Classics such as "Que Sera Sera" and "Knees Up Mother Brown" filled the room, creating a joyful and familiar atmosphere that encouraged everyone to sing along. The audience couldn’t resist joining in with the music and laughter, clapping and singing, adding to the overall sense of fun and community.
The performers, Matt and Mia, truly captivated the audience with their energy, enthusiasm, and musical talent. Their engaging performance brought smiles to everyone’s faces and made for a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon.
We are incredibly grateful to the Northeast Producers for putting on such a fantastic show, and we’re already looking forward with great excitement to seeing what they have in store for us at their upcoming Christmas performance.
Celebrating the Season at Moreton Hill's Harvest Festival
At Moreton Hill, we’ve been busy preparing for our fabulous Harvest Festival, a highlight of the autumn season. Residents enjoyed a creative workshop with Katherine, a talented local florist, who guided everyone in making beautiful harvest and autumn-themed flower arrangements. These colourful creations became stunning centrepieces in our dining room, filling the space with seasonal warmth.
Our local vicar, Lin, led a lovely harvest service, bringing residents and staff together to reflect on gratitude, community, and the beauty of the changing seasons. The Harvest Festival is a cherished tradition at Moreton Hill — a time to celebrate togetherness, creativity, and the bounty of autumn.
Events like these are a wonderful reminder of the vibrant community spirit that makes life at Moreton Hill so special. We look forward to many more moments of connection in the months ahead.
A Wonderful Visit from Walks with Hawks
We recently enjoyed a wonderful visit from Walks with Hawks, who brought some truly magnificent birds of prey to our home. The team gave a fascinating and informative talk, sharing details about how these incredible birds grow, develop, and form strong bonds with their handlers. Our residents were captivated by the stories and the chance to learn more about the lives of these feathered visitors. One of the highlights was welcoming a beautiful baby owl, whose gentle presence brought plenty of smiles and warm reactions. Residents also had the unique opportunity to hold and admire several of the birds up close, making the experience even more memorable. The afternoon sparked lots of conversation and created lasting memories, as everyone appreciated the chance to interact with such special animals. It was a truly enriching and enjoyable day that we look forward to repeating in the future.
A Wild Day with Zoolab
We were thrilled to welcome back Zoolab, one of our residents’ favourite visiting groups, for another unforgettable animal encounter! This time, residents met some truly fascinating creatures including Millie the millipede, a giant African land snail, a gentle snake, and more.
The session was not only hands-on but also educational. Residents were encouraged to ask questions and showed great curiosity as they learned amazing facts about these animals. Many even had the opportunity to hold the creatures—an experience that sparked excitement and awe throughout the room.
One resident shared, “I never thought I’d hold a snake at my age—it was surprisingly smooth and calm!”
Zoolab visits bring joy, stimulate the mind, and offer a unique way for residents to connect with nature.
Summer Delights in the Garden
At Moreton Hill, we believe that the little moments make the biggest difference—and nothing says summer quite like strawberries and cream in the sunshine. On a particularly warm afternoon, our residents came together to prepare this classic treat, carefully hulling fresh strawberries and whipping cream by hand. We love to involve residents in meaningful daily living tasks like this, which encourage independence, purpose, and joy.
Once everything was ready, we took the bowls of strawberries and cream out to the garden, where shaded seating and a gentle breeze made for a perfect setting. Glasses of chilled wine and bubbly Prosecco were served, adding an extra touch of celebration to the afternoon. Laughter, conversation, and the clinking of glasses filled the air as everyone relaxed and enjoyed the fruits of their labour.
These shared experiences are an important part of life in our home. They bring residents together, build connections, and create lasting memories. Whether it’s helping with food preparation, watering the garden, or simply choosing the music for the day, we encourage our residents to be as involved as they wish in daily routines. After all, it’s their home—and we’re here to make it as vibrant and fulfilling as possible.
A Surprise Visit from Horses
After a fun-filled morning of our usual activities, our residents were treated to a wonderful surprise—an unexpected visit from a group of friendly horses from a local field!
The atmosphere quickly filled with excitement and curiosity as the horses arrived at the front door, creating a lovely moment of connection between our residents and these gentle animals. Many residents eagerly made their way outside to greet the visitors, and their smiles said it all. For some, it was a beautiful reminder of past experiences with animals; for others, it was a brand-new and delightful encounter.
The horses were calm and friendly, happily accepting gentle pats and strokes. With the help of our team, residents were able to feed them some carrots, which the horses gratefully crunched away on. It was a simple pleasure, but it sparked joyful conversation, laughter, and plenty of fond memories.
Animal visits like these offer so much more than entertainment—they provide comfort, sensory stimulation, and emotional connection. We are incredibly thankful to the local community members who allowed the horses to visit and made the day extra special.
Our Resident Art Gallery
Over the past several weeks, our residents have been exploring their creativity through a very special art project. Each week, our dedicated volunteer and art teacher, Mel, has joined us to guide, encourage, and inspire. With patience and passion, Mel helped our residents experiment with different techniques, express themselves in new ways, and discover the joy of creating something uniquely their own.
From bright paintings to thoughtful sketches and imaginative mixed-media pieces, every artwork reflects the individuality, stories, and spirit of its creator. The process has been just as meaningful as the finished pieces, offering residents not only a chance to learn new skills but also moments of relaxation, self-expression, and connection.
We are proud to share the results of their hard work and creativity in our very own art gallery display. For the next two weeks, the walls of our home will be transformed into a celebration of talent, dedication, and community. Families, friends, and visitors are warmly invited to experience the exhibition and enjoy the incredible variety of artworks on show.
This project has been a wonderful reminder that art is for everyone—and that creativity has the power to bring joy at any stage of life.
Shaking, Drumming and Singing Along!
Our residents were delighted to welcome Susie, our talented music coach, for another uplifting music class at Moreton Hill. Susie has a wonderful way of bringing everyone together through rhythm and melody, making the session both engaging and accessible for all abilities. The class focused on coordination and following instructions, with each resident contributing to the creation of a full music piece. It was inspiring to see how, with Susie’s guidance, individual sounds blended into a joyful performance.
Residents were encouraged to try a range of instruments, from hand drums and shakers to tambourines and bells. Many enjoyed the chance to experiment with something new, while others found a steady rhythm and played confidently throughout. The activity sparked smiles, laughter, and lots of toe-tapping, with participants clearly enjoying the sense of teamwork and achievement.
Beyond the fun, Susie’s classes support memory, focus, and motor skills, offering a meaningful way for residents to stay active and creative. The atmosphere was warm and inclusive, with everyone encouraged to join in at their own pace. By the end, the room was filled with music, energy, and a shared sense of pride. We look forward to her next visit!
Cheesecake Creations at Moreton Hill
At Moreton Hill, we love making sweet memories—literally! Our wonderful residents recently transformed our activities room into a “Cheesecake Factory,” rolling up their sleeves to bake delicious cheesecakes from scratch. From mixing ingredients to decorating with care (and a bit of flour on their noses!), every step was filled with laughter and teamwork.
The highlight? Sharing their mouth-watering creations together and enjoying each other’s company. It was a joyful afternoon that combined creativity, connection, and, of course, cheesecake!
As one of the ladies put it, “I haven’t baked like that in years—it brought back lovely memories. And the cheesecake was absolutely delicious!”
Activities like this are a great way to spark joy, encourage independence, and foster friendships among our residents.
Lunch and Games whit School Children
We were delighted to welcome the children from Cashes Green School to Moreton Hill for a special visit this week. The children were accompanied by their teachers, and were warmly received by our residents upon arrival.
The afternoon was filled with lots of laughs as the children and residents spent quality time together. They enjoyed chatting in the garden, where stories and smiles were shared across generations. Indoors, they worked together on jigsaw puzzles, sparking conversations and teamwork. Outside on the lawn, everyone joined in for a lively parachute game, which brought great energy and fun to the afternoon.
To round off the visit, we all came together for a cheerful sing-along, with both young and old joining voices in a heartwarming finale. Our residents were full of praise for the children, commenting on how polite, well-behaved, and engaging they were throughout the day.
Events like this are truly special, bringing connection and happiness to everyone involved. We’re so grateful to Cashes Green School for making the effort to visit, and we look forward to welcoming them again soon. A wonderful time was had by all!
Staying Fit with Yoga Exercise
Moreton Hill Residents are encouraged to stay active and healthy through a regular schedule of exercise sessions tailored to their needs and abilities. Physical activity plays a vital role in maintaining mobility, strength, and overall well-being, and our residents benefit greatly from a variety of movement-based activities offered throughout the week. While there are several options available the most popular by far are the yoga sessions.
We are fortunate to have two experienced yoga instructors who visit us regularly to lead these fantastic classes. Their sessions are specifically designed for older adults, focusing on gentle stretching, balance, breathing techniques, and mindfulness. These practices help to reduce stress, improve flexibility, and support mental clarity. Our residents not only enjoy the physical benefits but also find a sense of peace and joy in the group setting.
The instructors have built strong connections with our residents, creating a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere that everyone looks forward to. This regular activity is one of the highlights of the week, contributing to both the physical and emotional well-being of our residents in a deeply positive way.
