Activities at Mount House and Severn View

Our Activities team is a dedicated group whom strive to ensure that the residents of Mount House have a broad range of meaningful activities daily which reflect the needs, wants and interests of all our residents. From our larger events including Garden Parties in our spectacular grounds to birthday celebrations with live musical entertainment we always have a broad range of events to suit all of our wonderful residents. We also go on a number of outings throughout the year in and around Shropshire, many of which are linked to community organisations whom cater specifically for interests of the people we support.

Something we have always been passionate about here at The Mount is Music therapy and we offer a diverse musical programme of live music and entertainers throughout the year to suit all tastes. Food theme days and tasting afternoons, as well as regular Cookery classes and chair yoga are on offer as well as beauty therapy and massage.
We aim to consistently provide a high quality activities programme for all of our residents and ensure that regardless of limitations and circumstances each individual has the best possible experience within our home, through both a physical and mentally stimulating person-centred approach.

Vintage Roll Royce at The Mount

Who needs the British Motor Show when we have a vintage Rolls Royce Phantom V 1961 outside our front door!

Good friend of our activities lead Joyce; Steve Plimmer is a collector of Rolls Royce memorabilia, classic and vintage cars, on Thursday he promised to surprise our residents with one of his favourites.

As the beautiful black Phantom drove slowly up the Mount House driveway resident Leslie was one of the first to get in the driving seat stating 'This is my kind of car!'

The ladies loved sitting in the back or simply standing by the car pretending it was theirs. Marjorie said she'd be happy to go anywhere 'as it's absolutely beautiful' and Bea looked at home in its presence whilst resident Joyce joked 'This is my car' as she grabbed the Flying Lady!

We'd like to thank Steve a million for bringing such a classic to our door and allowing us all to be lord, and lady of the manor for the afternoon.

Rachel and Joyce were treated to a luxurious trip around the block by Steve who they say drove like a chauffeur... minus the hat!

Thank you Steve for making our day extra special.

Ice's Queen Returns to Sidoli's

Resident, Beatrice ‘Bea’ Azzolina has such fond memories of Sidoli's, having worked for them for over than 30 years, and meeting the love her life whilst there, the Mount House team and Bea's family decided to make her 90th birthday extra special!

Bea started her career with Sidoli’s in the 60’s at the Bellstone store in Shrewsbury, when Dominic Sidoli was in charge. Little did she know it was to be the opening chapter of her life, soon after starting Bea met a lovely young man; Nick an aspiring baker from Sicily, on a work visa for Sidoli’s. Like every good love story, Bea and Nick fell in love and later married bringing into the world a beautiful daughter; Nicola.

On 23rd July the much loved ‘Bea’ celebrated her 90th birthday and as a surprise, the Mount House team, in conjunction with Nicola and the family decided to organise a surprise visit to Sidoli’s in Welshpool.

On arriving at Sidoli’s Bea and Nicola were greeted by the current owner Carlo, and his colleague Lorna. They were treated like royalty, which is apt as the local papers had named Bea the ‘Ice’s Queen’ at her retirement. Now she was back as a VIP guest enjoying an afternoon tea with plenty of Sidoli sweet treats.

As the group chatted Bea recalled a story of when she was accidentally locked in an ice cream van after a long day's work at the Shrewsbury Flower Show, laughing as she said “They simply forgot about me !.” She also reminded Carlo that she’d met him before… when he was a small boy in short trousers!

Before leaving, Carlo presented Bea with a delicious chocolate and orange-flavoured cake, beautifully decorated with icing for her to share with friends and family at her planned birthday party the next day.

In response to this wonderful gift, and the surprise trip Bea said: “I was on the verge of tears. It is such an amazing feeling to know that such a loving group of people care so much about me that they helped me to live out a dream on coming back to Sidoli’s.”

Adrian Suciu, General Manager at the home, said: “We believe that every moment is worth cherishing. We want everyone we care for to know how important they are to us here at Mount House & Severn View. It is testament to the hard work and dedication of the team here in making our residents’ dreams come true. It was wonderful to see how happy Bea was – and the Sidoli cake went down very well with everyone.”

Tiny Tablet Demonstration

Our resident fund is growing steadily in the hope of purchasing one of these amazing Tiny Tablets. The interactive touch screen activity table has been shown to have a positive impact on the well-being of care home residents.

It was wonderful to see how easy our residents found it to navigate from screen to screen, and try the various activities on offer, all structured to help improve cognitive function and motor skills.

The tablet is so versatile, suitable for group and 1:1 stimulation, it’s fully portable and designed to be accessible for people with limited physical abilities with a wide range of sensory games ensuring that everyone can benefit from its programs.

Having the opportunity to use the demonstration unit once again has only strengthened our efforts to raise the vital funds to purchase one for all at Mount House.

National Ice Cream Day Surprise

Yesterday we celebrated National Ice Cream Day, it gave Chef Charlotte the perfect opportunity to use the newly purchased ice cream and milkshake maker which, through various fundraisers our resident chose to buy in the hope of long hot summers and homemade ices!

As we have our very own ice cream lady living at Mount House; ‘Be’ who worked for Sidoli's (Ice Cream Makers in Wales since 1922) for over 30 years, it was wonderful to surprise her with her own old school ice cream cart. The cart, a transformed children’s shopping trolley courtesy of Rachel, was laden with ice cream, cones and sweet toppings. Lady Be was in her element delivering and serving to her friends and staff throughout the home. Today was definitely all about enjoying ice cream ... whatever the weather!
