Activities at Mount House and Severn View

Our Activities team is a dedicated group whom strive to ensure that the residents of Mount House have a broad range of meaningful activities daily which reflect the needs, wants and interests of all our residents. From our larger events including Garden Parties in our spectacular grounds to birthday celebrations with live musical entertainment we always have a broad range of events to suit all of our wonderful residents. We also go on a number of outings throughout the year in and around Shropshire, many of which are linked to community organisations whom cater specifically for interests of the people we support.

Something we have always been passionate about here at The Mount is Music therapy and we offer a diverse musical programme of live music and entertainers throughout the year to suit all tastes. Food theme days and tasting afternoons, as well as regular Cookery classes and chair yoga are on offer as well as beauty therapy and massage.
We aim to consistently provide a high quality activities programme for all of our residents and ensure that regardless of limitations and circumstances each individual has the best possible experience within our home, through both a physical and mentally stimulating person-centred approach.

Ironworks Day Trip

Residents Helen and Dennis fancied a day trip to The British Ironwork Centre in Oswestry to see all the wonderful sculptures on display. Whilst carer; Daisy served the tea, our Head of Maintenance; Alfie found his favourite piece, wondering where it could be placed in the Mount garden ... until he read the price tag!

Let's hope all their wishing well wishes come true.

Highland Games Recreated

Scotland's Highland Games run throughout Summer ending in September. We recently enjoyed our own take on the Games in the Mount House garden. Games included 'tossing the caber' with resident’s and relatives giving it a go! Margaret said her husband thoroughly enjoyed himself and she didn’t do bad for a left-hander.

It was super fun for all!

Local Support with Barchester Foundtation Grant

Mount House and Severn View care home recently presented Designs in Mind, Oswestry with a cheque for £775.00 towards equipment for art and design projects. Designs In Mind is a working studio, tucked away in Shropshire, where adults living with mental health challenges work together on ambitious, experimental art and design projects.

The grant had been awarded by Barchester's Charitable Foundation, a charity that helps older people and adults with a disability or mental health problems across England, Scotland and Wales by offering grants to help people connect or re-connect with others in their local community.

The team at Designs In Mind welcomed Adrian Suciu, General Manager at Mount House and Severn View to the studio to see one of the development workshop groups in action and to receive the cheque and celebrate being awarded the grant.

Miss Charlotte Phillips, Fundraiser, said “The money has enabled us to purchase a heavy duty drill and wood router for bigger community projects. Our members are in the process of designing a 2m high sculptor for installation at The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Orthopaedic Hospital to reflect their commitment to the community throughout the pandemic. The design will be a symbol of hope and reflection to boost mural and be enjoyed by all visitors and staff at the hospital."

Adrian said: “We are always keen to show as much support as we can to local charities. ‘Designs In Mind’ provides a vital pathway service for referred individuals from across the region, a safe place to express their creativity, build confidence and gain transferable skills for the future through collaborative art projects.”

Vintage Roll Royce at The Mount

Who needs the British Motor Show when we have a vintage Rolls Royce Phantom V 1961 outside our front door!

Good friend of our activities lead Joyce; Steve Plimmer is a collector of Rolls Royce memorabilia, classic and vintage cars, on Thursday he promised to surprise our residents with one of his favourites.

As the beautiful black Phantom drove slowly up the Mount House driveway resident Leslie was one of the first to get in the driving seat stating 'This is my kind of car!'

The ladies loved sitting in the back or simply standing by the car pretending it was theirs. Marjorie said she'd be happy to go anywhere 'as it's absolutely beautiful' and Bea looked at home in its presence whilst resident Joyce joked 'This is my car' as she grabbed the Flying Lady!

We'd like to thank Steve a million for bringing such a classic to our door and allowing us all to be lord, and lady of the manor for the afternoon.

Rachel and Joyce were treated to a luxurious trip around the block by Steve who they say drove like a chauffeur... minus the hat!

Thank you Steve for making our day extra special.
