Activities at Newton House Care Home

Staff and residents were delighted to invite Grantham Classic Car Club along to show off their wonderful cars and talk to residents and visitors about them. Everyone had a fantastic time comparing the merits of the different makes and models and discussing their histories.

Activities Co-ordinator, Karen Olivant said: “We have had such a lovely day, we would all like to thank members of Grantham Classic Car Club for agreeing to attend. Lots of our residents are car enthusiasts so they loved being able to look at the cars and chat to their owners. We are planning lots more events like this one to make sure we make the most of the summer months.”

Alec, whose wife resides at Newton house, proudly brought his 1934 Austin 10 to show alongside the group’s cars. He said “I went home feeling very happy, to see the twinkle in people’s eyes was the best”

In celebration of the UEFA European Football Championship, we thought what better way to kick start the excitement than live musical entertainment with the incredible duo that is KJ & The Catt

And what an absolutely amazing time was had, there was singing, dancing, tears of joy, laughter and a room full of smiles!

Dan & Kelly bring so much love with them each time they visit, & their performance always includes everyone, feels very special & personal to each & every person in the room.

Residents were very excited to try something a little different for their seated exercise session, & Resident Ambassador Beryl had always been intrigued about Yoga & what it involved. It was amazing to participate in such a gentle & calming activity which has many health benefits for both physical & wellbeing needs

Mike said “ I feel really refreshed now, it’s surprising as I felt exhausted at first”, Beryl said “ I thoroughly enjoyed that, thank you”

Residents all agreed at the end of the session that they really enjoyed this activity, & they cannot wait to welcome Rachel back for their next seated Yoga session

What an absolutely marvellous or should we say delicious day to celebrate, National sausage roll day saw us baking some very delicious sausage rolls, led by our wonderful resident Jean.

Jean was delighted to run the baking masterclass, as she has always enjoyed baking, she said “I’ve made hundreds of these before, especially for Christmas, I have always enjoyed baking”.

It was beautiful to see just how much this activity meant to Jean and how it provided her with such a great feeling of empowerment and love. The smell throughout the dining room was just delightful, and we couldn’t wait to sample these great bakes!

Barchester’s Newton House care home in Grantham has been shortlisted in the Amazing Activities Co-ordinator category of the Stars of Social Care Awards.  This award category is specifically to recognise amazing activity organisers and teams who go above and beyond in providing a meaningful and person centred activities programme.

The awards were presented by Josie Gibson and took place on June 15th at the Marriott Hotel in London and whilst the team were not crowned the winners of their category they were still happy to be nominated.

General Manager of Newton House care home, Sonia Fairhurst said: “It is so wonderful for the team to be recognised for doing the job that they love, this really is a team award for everyone who works in the activities team - we are a family and we all support each other.  I am so lucky to work with such brilliant people and to have such lovely residents. They are always winners in my eyes!”

Residents across our services enjoyed a fantastic virtual tour of The Deep, an award-winning aquarium in Hull.

Our residents dived into the underwater world of some fascinating creatures such as sharks, turtles and stingrays.

It was a truly immersive and educational experience that brought the wonders of the ocean right to our screens.
