Activities at Oulton Park Care Home

Our teams are trained to enrich the lives of residents through stimulating the mind, body and soul, and taking the time to learn about each person to ensure everyone receives support that adds enrichment to their life.

We have a wonderful team here at Oulton Park and we all work together to provide a stimulating, active environment for our residents that live here. We are always looking for new and innovative ideas for our residents to be part of here, and our activities coordinator works very hard on planning and providing a stimulating busy schedule of activities, as well as assisting the residents with their daily living preferences. We have regular meetings with our families and residents to make sure we are providing things to suit their preferences. We as a home are registered with the National Activity Providers Association and strive to provide a person-centred approach for our residents here.

Louise Hunter-Hall

Life Enrichment & Activities Coordinator

Hello my name is Louise, I am the life enrichment and activities coordinator at Oulton park care centre.

I joined Oulton Park late 2023 but I have worked in the care industry for over 20 years and I have a compassion for my role and work. During the 20years I have supported many different adults with different care needs including, nursing care, physical disabilities, learning disabilities, independent living and 1:1 needs. I have both my level 2&3 in care and level 2 in sign language.

At Oulton my role is to create and organise a range of engaging and meaningful activities. My role brings me a great deal of comfort and joy.

If I can just make 1 persons life better during my working day at Oulton Park then the day has been a success. I feel honoured, fortunate and blessed to do the job I do.

Activities and Events Partnerships

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

International day of women and girls in science

Oulton park care centre celebrated international women and girls in science day. Led by our two wonderful students, we had an afternoon full of fun and exciting science experiments. We started with a demonstration of some experiments - lava lamps, dancing grapes, milk painting and skittles tye dye.

Then our wonderful resident, Gordon, volunteered to trial a mini volcano with bicarbonate of soda and vinegar. Which reacted well so we increased our measurements and took our very own homemade volcano outside to make a larger reaction, and it went off fantastically. It was great fun and we are looking forward to doing this again.

Pike Creations

Residents at Oulton Park care centre have been working hard over the last few months creating a piece of art in honour of arts in care home day.

After planning what they were going to create, looking at different inspiration from our local area to what media they were going to work with. The residents decided to go with a pike to represent Oulton Broad and the River Waveney. They slowly worked on it, building the picture up layer by layer and the results looked amazing.

Chinese New Year!

The staff and residents have had a wonderful day celebrating Chinese New Year, from dressing up in traditional costumes to watching the amazing dragon dancing.

For lunch, our chef, Jason, created a wonderful Chinese new year menu with chicken broth, medley, chow mean and char sui chicken, so the residents could explore, enjoy and taste food from a different culture.

Sing along with Vibettes

With the help of the Vibettes, we travelled back to 1940's, 1950’s and 1960's as we sang all the old-time classics.

We all had a wonderful time as we danced and sang along to some amazing songs. Some residents even reminisced about their youth, remembering when the songs came out and hearing their parents sing along in their kitchen.

Great fun was had by all.

Trip to the local bar

What a wonderful afternoon we had at The Waveney Oulton Broad with our lovely Gordon who enjoyed a tasty cold beer and a bag of crisps with a good old natter.

Whilst we were there, we also enjoyed a competitive game of pool. It took only a short while to learn how to play, but he soon got it!

Once we had finished, we enjoyed a walk around the park enjoying the broads and the wildlife, and we even got the chance to visit Banksy's artwork.

It was such a wonderful way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

New Year's Eve

The residents celebrated New Year's Eve with a party where we sang along to songs from the 40s, 50s and 60s.

We all enjoyed tasty cakes and treats prepared by the chef and, alongside, we enjoyed a tasty glass of bubbly. We sat together talking about things we had done together in 2024, laughing at some of the amazing memories we had made during the year.

And we look forward to the new memories we can make in 2025!
