Activities at Ouse View Care Home

We understand that the people we will be supporting will have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we won’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our activities team will be dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events will be organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Rachael Turner

Activities Coordinator

We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities.

Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends. The home also has its very own minibus for our numerous outings for coffee and shopping, which residents love. We also enjoy our regular clubs, virtual events and varied life enrichment programme.

Bake sale raises money for charity

Residents and staff put the ‘fun’ into ‘fundraising’ with a charity bake sale and staff non-uniform / pyjamas day to raise money for Barchester’s Charitable Foundation. Staff and the head chef spent hours baking beautiful buns and cakes for the cake sale. The bake sale managed to raise £200.20 for our charity.

Rebekka, General Manager said: “We love to fundraise for charities throughout the year, we pick different causes to support that have been selected by staff, residents and friends of the home. Barchester’s Charitable Foundation is a great cause that helps many people in need and is also a cause very close to the hearts of all our staff and residents, so we feel really proud to have been able to raise this money. Thank you to everyone who donated!”

Musical performance with Sam Bennett

Residents enjoyed an afternoon of grins with a live music performance that took place at the home. Local singer and musician Sam Bennet performed a selection of folk songs including Kum by ya, down by the river side and The Saints go marching in as well as She’ll be coming round the mountain. He also played the guitar, banjo and ukulele.

Residents joined in with the singing, and clapped along as the band performed their finale song Heartbeat by Buddy Holly. The hospitality team at the home also provided a spread of sweet and savoury treats for guests to enjoy during the show.

Dementia Action Week

Residents and staff marked Dementia Action Week which took place from 13 – 19 May. Dementia Action Week kicked off to a great start with a Therapy dog Ted, the residents enjoyed lots of singing throughout the week with their very own dementia friendly choir and the lovely Dunnington choir came to visit on world cocktail day. The residents enjoyed a Bellini or two. The residents enjoyed a laughter with yoga session and of course the live Barchester event to Cadbury world where we reminisce with the memory boxes given by Cadburys, they enjoyed lots of chocolate. Half way through the week they had a morning full of games and a very entertaining dog show by the Star Paws Training Company who brought 3 dogs it to show them tricks. Towards the back of the week residents were entertained by making puff paint rainbows. What a week they have had

Celebrating Cadbury's

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

The Queen’s Own Yeomanry Company

Ouse View marked the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day in style by throwing a 1940s day to remember.  The home was decorated in red, white and blue and residents and staff dressed up in their 1940s-inspired glad rags and enjoyed a day of singalongs in the morning and in the afternoon were visited by soldiers from the The Queen’s Own Yeomanry Company in York

Chef Lynn whipped up a delicious selection of freshly-baked biscuits, cakes and biscuits for the occasion, all washed down with pots of tea and coffee to mark the occasion.

Residents enjoyed a singalong in the morning and in the afternoon, they talked to the soldiers for over 2 hours. The residents and soldiers also took part in a VE Day quiz. They reminisced about their memories of VE Day while having delicious cakes.

Spring lambs pay a surprise visit

The home was was full of animal mischief on Monday when the lambs came to visit the home. Residents were pleasantly surprised to see two baby two week old lambs roaming around their lounge as Ryedale Animal Group paid a visit.

Activity coordinator Rachael Turner said: “Our residents have really enjoyed their unusual visitors today.  We knew that having the lambs here would be a bit of fun for all our residents, especially as some find it difficult to go on many outings in our minibus.  We are always looking for new activities for the residents and today we have seen the seen the enjoyment and the therapeutic influence animals can have on people.”
