Activities at Peony Court Care Home

Our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to enhancing residents' quality of life by providing regular social and psychological stimulation. The activities can be undertaken in groups or ‘one-to-one’ and are based on individual preferences. We have a varied programme, with the goal of appealing to the interests and capabilities of all residents as best as possible. For example, there's pottery, baking, Scrabble, art classes, exercise sessions and much more. The Activities Coordinators also organise visits from entertainers, local groups, including school choirs, religious services and outings on the minibus.

Activities

Hi! I'm Paul, the Activities Co-Ordinator at Peony Court.

Before I joined the care sector I worked for many years in the hotel industry, managing housekeeping, hospitality and customer experience. Several members of my family have a history of working in care and I thought, maybe that could be me as well. I'm a natural entertainer with a flare for bringing smiles to people's faces and this was absolutely the right move for me.

Here at Peony Court, I make a point of getting to know each and every resident and their families. I tailor the activities program to suit individuals, no one is the same and everyone has different interests. It's my aim to be empathetic, enthusiastic and engaging with all of my residents. We have incredible activities and events here guided by exactly what our residents want, from pampering sessions to singing and dancing, chair exercises to arts and crafts, and diversity is absolutely the key!

I can't wait to welcome more residents and guests to Peony Court!

International Women's Day

We are so so lucky to have a whole bunch of fabulous ladies here at Peony Court, all special in their own way. And today we celebrate not just our female residents but our female staff, who do a wonderful job.

Male or female, we are one, we support each other, we are family.

Happy International Women's Day!

Random Acts of Kindness

February we recognised "Random Acts of Kindness" Day. Given the doom and gloom often occurring in the world we thought we'd find a way to make a few people smile - How I hear you ask?

We connected with students at a local School and they designed a fabulous collection of post cards for each of our residents letting them know they are thought of - In return our residents are sending out cards to others in the community.  We hope everyone who receives a card will continue to pay it forward.

We know its only a small gesture but if it makes a few people happy then that's food enough for us. :-)

A 'Flippin' good Pancake Day!

How do you eat yours?? Noooo we aren't talking about those famous Creme Eggs, we are talking pancakes!

I like mine simple with lemon and sugar but our residents had mixed tastes.

Yesterday for Shrove Tuesday our residents were treated to a pancake making demo with Head Chef Chris and tried a variety of flavours, including jam, honey, fruit and Nutella..... strangely no one picked a savoury filling so we can only surmise that Peony Court has a house of people with sweet teeth! No complaints here!

90th Birthday Celebrations

A couple recently stayed with us for a short break whilst maintenance work was taking place in their home and during their stay, Mrs V had her 90th birthday.

We organised a fabulous party for her with food, drink, decorations and obviously a big indulgent birthday cake and she was joined by her family to ensure it was a day to remember!

Mrs V said she had an amazing time celebrating her birthday - we always aim to please!

Sunglasses and Wind!

Our residents love a trip out on our mini bus and this week was no exception.... they chose a walk around the lovely Carshalton Ponds.

It was a little breezy and certainly blew away some cobwebs but we kept warm with a hot beverage and looked pretty cool in our shades!

Only Men Aloud!

Nope, we aren't talking about that male only choir..... Our male residents decided they fancied a pub lunch and a pint and we happily obliged! We went to a lovely old pub and enjoyed some real ale and some homemade grub.

The ladies haven't been forgotten, they are currently planning a posh afternoon tea in the near future!
