Activities at Shawford Springs Care Home

We understand that the people we support have passions and interests that could be difficult to pursue after moving into a care home – but that doesn’t mean we don’t encourage them to try! Some hobbies can define a person, so our Activities Coordinators are dedicated to ensuring that everyone we support is able to do what makes them happy to the best of their abilities. Social events are organised with individual tastes in mind and with the idea that residents have the opportunity to try new and exciting things.

Joanne Gadd

Activities Co-ordinator

Hello, I am Joanne. I have worked as an activities coordinator for over seven years. In that time I have built a wealth of skills, knowledge and experience in designing and implementing activities that will support the mind, body and soul. I have a passion for delivering person centred sessions and will strive to ensure our weekly programme is engaging for all. I love organising events and am continually looking for ways to connect with our local community.

Pamper Morning

Yesterday we enjoyed a pamper morning in our purpose built salon. Our wonderful hairdresser Edana not only worked her magic on our resident’s hair, but also helped our Activities Coordinator Jo give manicures & pedicures which left everyone feeling pampered from head to toe

Royal Logistics Corps - Winchester - Out and about

Last week  some of our gents took a trip to the The Royal Logistic Corps Museum in Winchester.

They thoroughly enjoyed browsing the many exhibits (the medal room being one of their favourites) & would certainly recommend popping by for a visit if you’re ever in the area. Thank you to all the staff at the museum for making them feel so welcome.

Tea, chat and a visit to Brambridge Garden centre

Recently some of our ladies enjoyed a trip to Brambridge Park Garden Centre for a wander & cuppa in the café. Brambridge is a favourite destination of ours and a bonus is it’s only a short drive away.

Shawford Springs Speakers Corner Community Event - The Ghosts of Winchester

We’d like to say a big thank you to local expert Matthew for visiting us on Monday as part of our Monthly Speakers Corner event.

He gave a fascinating talk on the ‘Ghosts of Winchester’, in which he shared tales of the ghosts who are said to haunt some of Winchester’s historic buildings including the Cathedral & Buttercross monument.

We all found it incredibly interesting and it was the perfect event to lead us into our Halloween celebrations.

Arts and Crafts club

We’ve been painting poppies in our weekly arts & crafts club as part of our Remembrance Day preparations. Painting is a popular activity amongst our residents as it’s both relaxing & therapeutic.

Birthday Celebrations

This week we  wished our wonderful Marie a very Happy Birthday.  Marie isn’t a fan of cake, so our kitchen team decided to make her a special biscuit treat instead to celebrate.
