Activities at The Spires Care Home

Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.

Angie Smith

Activities Coordinator

Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.

We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

As part of our bespoke life-enrichment programmes, we host a number of live virtual events in the home on a regular basis through a number of partnerships with places of interest and world class performance companies

Life at The Spires Care Home

To the pub!

Residents at The Spires Care Home were thrilled to enjoy an evening at the pub, all without leaving the comfort of their own home! Activities coordinator Gemma arranged for the residents to enjoy their favourite tipples in the pub. Residents enjoyed a pint of ale, glass of wine or a G&T and a sing song with friends. Resident David said “ This has been so much fun, it’s nice to be able to enjoy a drink with all my friends”.

Jubilee Celebrations

Excitement has been running high at The Spires Care Home where residents and staff have been busy making Jubilee-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of head chef Polly Holmes in preparation for the Jubilee. Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a Queen. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a Tea party and indoor BBQ for residents and their families with live entertainment and games. Residents were also joined by Lichfields Deputy mayor and mayoress who helped them to cut their cake. The whole home came together to celebrate our longest reigning monarch and reminisce about what she means to each and every one of us.

Fusion dance school

Here at The Spires Care Home we love any excuse to have a dance and a recent visit from Fusion Dance School has given us just that! We have started a fantastic armchair dance class and have loved keeping active whilst listening to our favourite songs!

A royal visit

We have welcomed a very special visitor to The Spires, our very own Prince George! Born on the 23rd of April (Saint Georges Day) baby George was a big hit with our residents. We spent the afternoon reminiscing about when our own children were babies and had a wonderful time making a fuss of him!

The Big Red Bike

Residents and staff at The Spires Care Home were thrilled to get on their bikes this week! The fabulous team from the big red bike initiative in Lichfield visited The Spires and took our residents out on a bike ride around the local area. For many of our residents cycling was a favourite past time and being able to get back out on the open road has been a fabulous experience! In July the Barchester Care Homes executive team will be riding between Yorkshire to London to raise money for the Barchester Charitable foundation and stopping off at The Spires Care Home, this is the start of our residents training to get involved!

Queen's Birthday

Residents and staff marked the Queen’s 96th birthday in style by brewing up a storm for National Tea Day and having an afternoon tea party. Chef Ian whipped up a tasty selection of freshly-baked biscuits, pastries and cakes for the occasion, all washed down with a selection of different teas. Residents took part in royal and tea-themed sessions including a royal quiz, learning facts about tea growing and production and a very patriotic sing a long session with singer Lynne.
