Activities at The Spires Care Home
Activities are an integral part of life at our care home. We want to ensure that the people we support have as much fun as possible during their time with us, so it’s important that our activities programme is created with the interests of residents in mind. Our skilled Activities Coordinators bring a certain uniqueness to the home that can’t be found anywhere else, and which is reflected in the activities they organise.
Angie Smith
Hi, my name is Angie and I am an activities coordinator here at The Spires. We all know that keeping active is important. We have created a wonderful culture within the home and we work together to give residents the best possible experience. We are here to ensure that residents enjoy an environment that is both stimulating and socially active.
We ensure the team knows each residents' preferences, so that we can deliver a person-centered program of events and activities. Essential to our homely feel is the strong relationships of trust we build with residents and their families and friends.

Life at The Spires Care Home
Home joins community project
The Spires care home in Lichfield have recently joined forces with local group ‘Nurture Communities CIC’ as part of their Growing Communities Project. The Growing communities project aims to bring together isolated communities in Staffordshire through the love of gardening, creating and cooking.
This project provides an opportunity for the residents at The Spires to meet others of all ages to work together in growing their own vegetables to later be used in cooking meals to share together.
Pets at the Palaces
Residents across our services had a delightful time during a special virtual sensory storytelling event, led by Art Historian Jon Sleigh from the Historic Royal Palaces.
Jon took us on a journey to discover some of the more unusual and unexpected inhabitants of the palaces and the Tower of London, sharing fascinating stories about the pets at the palaces.
Whilst enjoying the virtual experience, our residents were treated to hot beverages, delicious biscuits, berries and cakes. It was a truly lovely time for all.
Kindness Rocks for our Community
Residents at The Spires had the opportunity to unleash their creativity and express themselves through the colourful and inspiring art of rock painting this week. The kindness rocks will now be hidden in the Lichfield community for others to find and enjoy. Residents were joined by the team from local not for profit organisation Grace Cares who support those in their own home with the purchase of pre-loved care equipment.
Residents really enjoyed the opportunity to get creative and will look forward to hunting for their stones in the near future!
Coronation Celebrations fit for a King!
Excitement was in the air at The Spires Care where residents and staff have been busy making Coronation-themed decorations and baking up a storm of red, white and blue cakes and pastries with the help of chef Jim Grizzell in preparation for the King’s Coronation on May 6.
Staff and residents at the home put their heads together and came up with a plan for their celebrations fit for a King. Over the bank holiday weekend the home held a fabulous garden party and barbecue with live entertainment from D-Day Dolly. The whole home came together to celebrate our new King and talk about the new era the country is entering.
Coronation talk
Across our services Residents had a wonderful time participating in an interactive virtual talk with Pippa Catterall, Professor of History and Policy at the University of Westminster, where we delved into the rich history of coronations.
During the talk, we explored fascinating topics such as the coronation chair, the crown, and other significant aspects related to King Charles' upcoming coronation. Our residents were thrilled to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the memoirs of past coronations from 1937 and 1953, as well as learning about the coronation oath and what to expect from the ceremony, including the music, guests, and pageantry.
May Day Morris Dancing
Spring has truly sprung at The Spires as residents and staff celebrated May Day. A day of seasonal change, May Day is one of four ancient Celtic cross-quarter days as it falls between the March equinox and the Summer solstice.
To mark the Spring celebrations, residents and staff were joined by member of the Three Spires Morris Dancing group who performed for residents in the homes gardens. They invited family and friends along to help them celebrate. Everyone had great fun watching the fabulous performance and even tried their hand at Morris dancing.
General Manager, Amy Doyle said: “Everyone at The Spires really enjoyed today’s festivities out in the garden, it has been such a lovely day and so nice to feel some spring sunshine at long last!
Brenda Hughes, a resident, said: “Celebrating May Day today has been so enjoyable. I especially loved watching the Morris dancers. The staff here think of everything to make sure we make the most of occasions like this.”
