Activities at Station Court Care Home

Residents, family, friends and staff came together to commemorate VE day 79th anniversary at Station Court care homes garden party. 

The garden was flooded in red, white and blue as everyone waved their flags, sang along and danced to wartime classic performed live by the brilliant swing entertainer Michael Stevens.

Afterwards the home held a discussion and reminiscing session using memory boxes from Northumberland library packed with wartime memorabilia, newspaper articles and listening to Churchill’s famous speech.

Gentlemen in Station Court’s gardening club had a ‘blooming’ brilliant day visiting one of the world’s most extraordinary contemporary gardens in the heart of Northumberland - Alnwick Gardens as part of the homes Spring mini bus programme in aid of National gardening week.

With the sun shining brightly the gentlemen took in the beautiful water features and grand cascade, got lost in the bamboo labyrinth, took a stroll through the cherry blossom orchid, viewing the largest collection of Taihaku in the world up to the ornamental garden to see the beautiful blooms and gain inspiration for our own garden before stopping for a picnic at the picturesque lake.

Residents across our services had a wonderful time joining Cadbury for an interactive virtual talk on their fascinating 200-year history.

Residents joining learnt interesting facts about the chocolate giant, shared memories, and reminisced about their favourite sweet treats.

It was a heartwarming experience filled with laughter, nostalgia, and plenty of chocolatey goodness!

Station Court was filled with laughter and joy as residents, family members and staff relived the fabulous fifties.

With a mix of rock N’ roll, swing and jazz hits from the era performed live by the brilliant Michaela from Musical Memories having us all singing along, doing the boogie woogie, rocking around the clock, hand jiving and bringing back memories on the magical decade of music.

Residents reminisced fifties fashion, with staff members wearing costumes of the era for the occasion and discussed life in the fifties with themed sweet treats that are still available today such as fry chocolate creams and took part in hula hoop challenges before taking on the big fifties quiz.           

Residents, family members, staff along with young adults from Brightside had a ‘hoot’ at Station Court’s in-house petting zoo experience with the wonderful and wild animals from Animal Antics.

We met, held, cuddled and petted Pip and Squeak the friendly mice, pecan and silk baby chick’s, Diesel and Lilly the fluffy bunnies, Zena the bearded dragon, Bracken the barn owl and for the brave Cornflake the snake and Millie the Millipede which have all been rescued and given a new lease of life thanks to Animal Antics bringing wonder and joy along to us all in our home.

A ‘Eggcellent’ Easter weekend was had by all at Station Court. Local children joined our staff and residents at our Easter eggstravaganza community event meeting Flopsy and Fluffy the Station bunnies for a day of Easter fun creating Easter bonnets, challenging each other at egg and spoon races and Easter themed games before heading into the sunshine egg hunting in our garden and devouring Easter bakes and treats. Residents had an ‘eggstrodinary’ day at our Easter Hop with live entertainment from the brilliant Michaela from Musical memories performing her Easter variety show having us all singing along and hopping to music through the eras and everyone in our home had an eggcellent delivery from the station bunnies – after all your never too old for laughter and chocolate at Easter.
